摘要： The present invention has multiple aspects. In its simplest aspect, the present invention is directed to an intermediate bone block comprising a machined segment of cortical bone, cancellous bone or both, the intermediate having a face comprising one to ten compression surfaces and one to ten cavities, the compression surfaces suitable for compressing soft tissue, the cavities for receiving and holding overflow soft tissue. The cavities are preferably channels, and more preferably channels having an omega cross-sectional profile. Surprisingly, the cavities and channels, which reduced the compressed surface area between the intermediate bone block and the tendon, significantly improved tendon load at failure. In standardized tests, an intermediate bone block of this invention, when combined with high surface area bone blocks of the prior art bone blocks, unexpectedly increased their load at failure. The invention is also directed to bone block assemblies suitable for binding to a soft tissue to form an implantable graft, and to such implantable grafts. A particularly preferred graft is a bone-tendon-bone graft.

摘要： The invention relates to an endoprosthesis component (1, 2) formed from a ceramic material (9), the ceramic material (9) being partially coated with a titanium alloy. An uncoated portion of the surface of the endoprosthesis component is configured to cooperate as a sliding surface (3) with an additional endoprosthesis component (1, 2). A coated portion of the surface of the endoprosthesis component (1, 2) is configured to connect to a bone (6, 7). According to the invention, the portion of the ceramic material (9) forming a boundary surface (8) to the coating (10) has a roughness Ra between 2.5 µm and 7 µm, which results in a firm connection between the coating (10) and the ceramic material (9). The invention further relates to a method for producing such an endoprosthesis component. The invention finally relates to a method for producing a ceramic component that is able to serve as the basis for an endoprosthesis component according to the invention. In order to attain the desired roughness of the surface, the ceramic component is presintered at a temperature between 880°C and 980°C and subsequently treated with a blasting material.

摘要： The invention reduces wear in total joint articulations by modifications of the shape of either component of the kinematic pair, so as to result in an annular surface contact between the two components. Fluid trapped between the two components within the inner contour of the annular contact area is pressurized under load due to elastic deformation of the components and exuded out through inter-articular gap over the surface of contact, aiding in lubrication and reducing the wear. Reduced to practice for a total hip joint with UHMWPE-metal pair, the wear rate tested in a hip joint simulator up to five million cycles was reduced by factor seven to fifteen compared to conventionally shaped components.
