    • The invention relates to a novel combination, with a novel way of locking and unlocking an adjustment device for an artificial leg or arm. The novel combination makes it possible to perform an adjustment of the prosthesis, without necessitating disassembly of the prosthesis or the removal of the prosthesis from the patient. This facilitates the work in adjusting the translatory position and the angular position, and the adjustment device also offers a further degree of freedom by the addition of the possibility of distal adjustment. The novel combination provides a locking ring (40) on the adjustment head. Said locking ring offers a stable, adjustable locking of the adjustment head against a coupling sleeve (50) on the stump, while at the same time fixing the translatory position of the prosthesis. The prosthesis is then provided with a stable, adjustable setting of the distal length of the prosthesis by means of said locking ring (40), which greatly facilitates fine adjustment of the length of the prosthesis, since there is no need to disassemble the prosthesis for performing such a distal length adjustment. The angular adjustment is carried out by means of a pyramid adapter pin (23) which is arranged either in the upper, or in the lower part of the adjustment head. Inclined adjustment screws corresponding to the inclined sides of the pyramid adapter pin are arranged in the corresponding upper or lower part of the adjustment head. Said arrangement does then allow a simple way or disassembling the adjustment head in two parts.

    • The invention concerns a device for compensating the amputation of a lower member by mechanical means, more particularly a leg prosthesis enabling a handicapped person to walk unassisted. The prosthesis comprises in its upper part an adjustable rod (2) fixed to a moulded sleeve (3) and in its lower part, an adjustable rod (4) fixed to an artificial foot (5). The knee axial articulation (6) consists of a female joint (10) and a male joint (12) made mutually integral by a through shaft (16). The shaft hole (19) is oblong and comprises a spring (20) maintained in its housing. The joints (10 & 12) being mutually integral by means of the shaft (16) passing through the oblong hole (19) enables the male joint (12) to move vertically inside the female joint (10). The invention is characterised in that it enables the person wearing the prosthesis to block the knee articulation (6) in vertical position when the weight of the body is resting on the prosthesis (1) an free axial rotation when the prosthesis (1) is released from the weight of the body which then rests on the other leg and alternately in a normal walking position.

    • A magnetic locking actuator for a prosthetic or orthotic device is provided. The actuator includes a first component including one or more magnets and a second component including one or more magnets. The first and second components are coupled to separate portions of the device. The magnets allow for adjustment of a length of the actuator to adjust an angular orientation of the first and second portions of the device. When magnets in the second component are aligned with magnets in the first component having an opposite polarity, a position of the second component is fixed relative to the first component, locking the actuator. When magnets in the second component are not aligned with magnets in the first component having the opposite polarity, the position of the second component is adjustable relative to the first component, thereby allowing adjustment of the height of the actuator.

    • In a lower limb prosthesis (10) for a transfemoral amputee, the shin portion (12), ankle portion (14) and a forefoot part (17) of the foot portion (16) are formed as integral fibre - reinforced plastics leaf spring component. This integral component is adjustably mounted to a knee joint (22) which has a knee chassis (22A), a cradle (22B) pivotally connected to and depending from the knee chassis, and a flexion control unit (24) in the form of a piston and cylinder assembly interconnecting the knee chassis and the cradle. The shin portion has an elongate resilient section of constant cross - section which is oriented substantially vertically when the prosthesis is in a static standing position. The connection of this resilient section to the knee joint cradle and the arrangement of the cradle is such that the vertical distance between the knee axis of rotation and the location of the connection is less than 25% of the vertical distance between the knee axis and the lowest weight -bearing surface of the foot portion. This maximises the length of the resiliently deflectable part of the shin portion.
