摘要： The invention concerns a lower arm arthroplasty, possibly a proximal radial head replacement or a distal radio-ulnar arthroplasty. The arthroplasty includes an intermedullary stem (12, 52) having a first end for anchorage in a hole in a forearm bone and a second end (14, 60). The arthroplasty also has a head (18, 55) with an external, curved surface (44,46, 66) for articulation relative to another bone (53). Another component of the arthroplasty is an intermediate member (16, 54) which locates between the head and the second end of the stem and is enagable with those components. The intermediate member is engagable with at least the stem in an articulating manner which allows the head to pivot relative to the stem through a limited range of angles. In the preferred embodiment, the intermediate member engages both the head and the stem in articulating manner.

摘要： A prosthesis is provided for replacing a portion of a bone making up a joint. The prosthesis is adapted, intraoperatively, to optimize the anatomical alignment of the prosthesis in the joint. In particular, a jig is used to identify the axis of rotation of the joint intraoperatively and to align a portion of the prosthesis with the identified axis. The angle of the head of the prosthesis is adjusted to optimize contact with the appropriate corresponding portions of the joint, at which point the position of the head is fixed to prevent further rotation of the head relative to the remainder of the prosthesis.

摘要： A bone implant (71) comprises a body formed of an articulated open cell structure of a lightweight material, the surfaces of which structure are covered with a thin metal layer. A layer of biocompatible pyrocarbon coating is applied to the metal-coated structure so as to cover the entire structure and provide a dense, nonporous, biocompatible layer. 摘要： A prosthetic joint kit that is particularly well suited for an elbow. In each of the various embodiments, the prosthetic joint kit transmits load through the prosthetic joint through a pair of spherically shaped bearing surfaces so as to transmit load over a relatively large area rather than at a point or over a line of contact. The prosthetic joint kit may be configured in a modular manner wherein a plurality of interchangeable stem structures, being structures and/or bearing inserts of various types are available. Construction in this manner enables a surgeon to configure the prosthetic joint to best suit the needs of the patient. For example, the surgeon may employ a modular flange for compressing a bone graft, a tissue fastener for securing soft tissue to a portion of the prosthetic joint, a cam for limiting the amount by which the prosthetic joint articulates or a bearing insert for tailoring the degree of varus/valgus constraint.

摘要： A radial head replacement system includes a radial head replacement (50), an apparatus for guiding the resection of a radial head, and a kit including bone plug and bone plug insertion instrument. The radial head replacement has a separate adjustable head portion (59) that may be secured on an implanted stem (52) such that the implanted radial head replacement smoothly interfaces with the capitellum of the humerus. In another form, the radial head replacement (80) uses crossed bone screws (104, 106) that serve to more securely anchor the stem (82) of the radial head replacement in the intramedullary canal of the radius. The resection guide includes a movable cutting guide (140) which ensures a precise resection of the radial head and thereby allows for better positioning of the implanted radial head replacement.
