    • A surgical kit utilizable in a minimally invasive surgical procedure with an endoscope insertion member having a distal end portion includes a sheath, an incising instrument, and a coupling element. The sheath is provided with at least one longitudinally extending tubular channel and is disposable about the endoscope insertion member. The incising instrument has an elongate shaft and an operative tip at a distal end of the shaft for forming an incision or perforation in a wall of an internal organ of a patient. The instrument is insertable though a working channel extendable along the distal end portion of the endoscope insertion member, the working channel being a biopsy channel of the endoscope insertion member or the tubular channel in the sheath. The coupling element is connectable to the endoscope insertion member or the sheath at a proximal end thereof and also operatively connectable to a source of pressurized gas, for enabling delivery an insufflation gas along the endoscope into an internal space of a patient.

    • A surgical port device includes a membrane, a plurality of tubular members traversing the membrane, and means for attaching the membrane to a wall of an organ so that the tubular members traverse a perforation in the wall. A surgical method comprises inserting a distal end portion of a surgical instrument through a natural body opening of a patient into a natural body cavity of the patient, using the surgical instrument to form a temporary artificial opening through a wall of an organ defining the natural body cavity. The port device is inserted through the natural body opening into the natural body cavity, and subsequent to the inserting of the port device, the port device is disposed in the artificial opening to keep the same open.

    • A surgical device includes an elongated flexible hollow shaft or tube (16), a hollow needle (12) connected to one end of the shaft or tube, and a coupling element (30) at an opposite end of the shaft or tube for operatively connecting the shaft or tube and concomitantly the needle to a source of pressurized carbon dioxide gas (32). The shaft or tube may be insertable through a working channel of a flexible endoscope (34). In a surgical method, the hollow needle is inserted into a hollow internal organ of a patient through a natural body opening. A wireless scanning apparatus (48) is operated externally of the patient to obtain data as to internal structures of the patient on a side of a wall of the organ opposite the body cavity. A distal tip or free end of the needle is passed through the wall of the organ only upon detecting, via the wireless scanning apparatus, an absence of internal organic tissues in contact with the wall. Pressurized CO2 gas is then conveyed through the needle into the patient on the side of the wall opposite the body cavity.
