    • The medical imaging device comprises a central assembly (10) and a sterile disposable cover (16), which is slipped over the central assembly. The central assembly comprises a proximal portion (14), which remains outside of the abdominal cavity of the patient, and a distal portion (12), which is inserted into the abdominal cavity through a slit made in the abdominal wall by the surgeon. A first plurality of light emitting diodes (30) is circumferentially distributed around the outer surface of the central assembly near the top of the distal portion and a reversibly inflatable balloon (32) is circumferentially attached to the cover at the location of the first plurality of diodes. When the balloon is inflated and the first array of light emitting diodes is activated to produce light, then the light enters the interior of the balloon, is repeatedly reflected from the inner walls of the balloon until it eventually passes through the wall of the balloon at random angles thereby illuminating the entire interior of the abdominal and pelvic cavities.

    • The present invention is a robotic mobile platform vehicle that can be thrown into hostile or hazardous environments for gathering information and transmitting that information to a remotely located control station and a system comprising the robotic mobile platform. One of the key features of the invention is that at least four imaging assemblies are mounted on the robotic platform and that the system has the processing ability to stitch the views taken by the four imaging devices together into an omni-directional image. Another feature is that the user can steer the robotic platform simply by touching an object in one of the images displayed in the graphic interface. The robotic platform can then either point its sensors towards that object or, if so instructed, compute the direction to the object and travel to it without any further input from the user
