    • A mechanical locking arm for secure retraction in vaginal surgeries without the need for assistants using hand-held retractors. The base of the arm clamps to the hospital bed and a standard hand-held retractor is fixed to the other end. The arm consists of several locking joints that can be released to adjust the retractor-arm's position by squeezing a handle near the retractor-fixed end and re-secured by releasing this handle. This mechanism allows for quick adjustments based on the visual and tactile feedback of the clinician to meet the momentary needs of the procedure. When locked, the device securely maintains a force sufficient for retraction (-30-40 N) to allow the clinician to visualize the intended area. This retraction method provides an adequate view of the operating site (> 5 cm diameter circle) and ensures minimal intrusions of this space for periods up to 1 hr.

    • There is provided a screen module (10) including a fabricated steel frame (11) having peripheral side elements (12) an intermediate element embedded at (13) and transverse ladder elements embedded at (14). The ends of the peripheral side elements (12) are relieved at their ends (15). Edge reinforcing elements (16) extend between respective ends of the peripheral side elements (12), the mid points of the edge reinforcing elements (16) being interconnected by the relieved ends of the intermediate element embedded at (13). A polyurethane screen body (17) is moulded over and embeds the fabricated steel frame (11). The screen body has formed therein a groove (20) which is interrupted at the location of each of the peripheral side elements (12) and intermediate element embedded at (13) by moulded lugs (21). A substantially unreinforced body portion (22) extends along the inner side of the groove (20). The presence of the groove (20) forms a flange (24) adapted to engage a corresponding channel formed in a support rail (not shown).
