    • The present invention comprises a process of preparing a solution of an enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt in a polyhydric alcohol by (a) providing an aqueous solution consisting essentially of about 5 % to about 18 % by weight of an enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt in water, the enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt having been prepared in situ without having been dried to a solid powder; (b) mixing the aqueous solution with a sufficient amount of a liquid polyhydric alcohol to provide a mixed solution which has an antiperspirant salt to polyhydric alcohol ratio of about 1:4 to about 1.2:1; and (c) rapidly evaporating the water from the mixed solution under vacuum to provide a final liquid polyhydric alcohol solution containing about 20 to 50 % enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt and about 2 to 16 % water, with the balance being polyhydric alcohol. An alkaline glycinate salt, such as sodium, potassium or zinc glycinate, may be added to the polyhydric alcohol prior to the addition of the antiperspirant salt solution in order to raise the pH of the recovered product to about 4.1 to 5.0.

    • Soap-based clear cosmetic sticks are disclosed which include an alkali metal salt of a chelating agent into the stick composition to increase the set temperature and the stick hardness and to prevent the formation of precipitates in the composition during aging. A typical composition of the present invention comprises about 40 to 90 %, preferably about 50 to 80 %, of a polyhydric alcohol, about 5 to 35 %, preferably 15 to 30 %, water, about 3 to 12 %, preferably 4 to 8 %, of an alkali metal salt of a C12-22, preferably C14-18, fatty acid, and about 0.3 to 1.6 %, preferably about 0.5 to 1.3 % of an alkali metal salt of a chelating agent, preferably a sodium or potassium salt of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA). The composition will also typically contain a cosmetic active ingredient such as a deodorant active. Preferably the composition will contain less than 0.3 %, most preferably less than 0.2 %, of C20-22 soap in order to achieve maximum clarity.

    • Soap-based clear cosmetic sticks are disclosed which include 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol in the composition to increase the set temperature, and also the stick hardness. A typical composition of the present invention comprises about 20 to 50 %, preferably 28 to 46 %, of 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, about 3 to 12 %, preferably 4 to 8 %, of an alkali metal salt of a C12-22, preferably C14-18, fatty acid, about 10 to 42 %, preferably 18 to 30 %, of a polyhydric alcohol other than 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, and about 5 to 35 %, preferably 15 to 30 %, water. To achieve the highest set temperature the composition should also contain an alkali metal salt, preferably a sodium or potassium salt, particularly an alkali metal halide such as sodium chloride or an alkali metal chelate such as di-, tri- or tetra-sodium EDTA. The composition will also typically contain a cosmetic active ingredient such as a deodorant active. Preferably the composition will contain less than 0.3 %, most preferably less than 0.2 %, of C20-22 soap in order to achieve maximum clarity.

    • The present invention provides a process for making a solid antiperspirant stick comprising a particulate aluminum antiperspirant salt suspended in an anhydrous carrier vehicle, wherein said carrier vehicle comprises a high melting component which melts at 70 DEG C or higher. This process includes heating the carrier vehicle in a closed mixing vessel to a temperature in excess of 70 DEG C, preferably in excess of 75 DEG C, to melt the high melting component, adding the antiperspirant salt to the carrier vehicle, and cooling the carrier vehicle to form a solid antiperspirant stick. The improvement of the present invention comprises cooling the carrier vehicle below 70 DEG C, preferably to about 65 DEG C or less, but above the solidification point prior to adding the antiperspirant salt and maintaining the carrier vehicle below 70 DEG C, preferably at about 65 DEG C or less, during and after the antiperspirant salt addition, thereby substantially preventing agglomeration of the antiperspirant salt into large particles, especially particles in excess of 60 microns.
