    • Two intermediate transfer type ink jet recording methods, a recording apparatus suitable for practicing these methods, and an ink composition utilized in the methods and apparatus are disposed. A first recording method consists of the steps of discharging a thermoplastic resin-containing ink composition onto an intermediate drum so as to form an ink image thereon, heating this ink image at a temperature not lower than the softening or melting point of the thermoplastic resin so as to turn the image into a film, and thereafter transferring the film onto recording paper. A second recording method consists of the steps of discharging a thermoplastic resin-containing ink composition onto an intermediate drum so as to form an ink image thereon, heating the ink image so as to form a condensed ink image, transferring the resultant image onto recording paper, and thereafter heating the image at a temperature not lower than the softening or melting point of the thermoplastic resin. In the recording method according to the present invention, an excellent printing can be obtained irrespective of the quality of recording paper and even under a low transfer pressure.

    • An ink jet recorder includes a circuit (31) for generating a first trapezoidal driving voltage in synchronism with an external timing signal; a driving circuit (32) for outputting the first driving voltage to a piezoelectric vibrator (17) in response to an external printing signal and outputting a second voltage for generating small pulses to such an extent that ink droplets are not jetted from a nozzle aperture, in synchronism with the timing signal if a non-printing state lasts for one or more cycles; and control means (30) for stopping the application of the small pulses if it lasts more than a predetermined time during an interruption of printing. When the ink droplets are not jetted for more than one cycle, the small pulses are applied to impart fine vibration to a meniscus so as to prevent clogging of the nozzle without generating an ink mist. Moreover, when printing is interrupted and the application of the small pulses continues for more than the predetermined time, the application of the small pulses is stopped so as to prevent the undesirable increase of tackiness of ink at the nozzle that results from fine vibration.

    • A PD (81) is positioned at a predetermined position on an optical table, the rotation of a resist master (110) is stopped, a focusing laser (73) is driven, and a head (77) is positioned in a proper position by a head slider control circuit (101). The master (110) is turned, a focusing servo circuit (103) is started and, the PD (81) is moved horizontally by a focus fine adjustment circuit (99) by a minute distance corresponding to an estimated adequate focus position data. Since the difference between voltage signals from the two output terminals of the PD (81) is varied because of the surface vibration and minute movement caused by the rotation of the master (110), a differential amplifier (103a) moves a recording lens (77a) vertically by a distance of several microns so as to make an error signal zero. Numerical information on a digital display (93) at this time is compared with the focus position data. When both of them agree with each other, the focus position data is employed as an adequate focus position data and used for the initial setting of the adequate focus position. When they do not agree with each other, the numerical information is employed as the adequate focus position data and the focus position data is rewritten. By using the numerical adequate focus position data, the inital setting of the adequate focus position matching the type of the resist master can be carried out easily.
