    • A drive system (10) has an input shaft (12) and an output shaft (20). An oil shear clutch assembly (16) is operable to lock the input shaft (12) to the output shaft (20) and an oil shear brake assembly (18) is operable to lock the output shaft (20) to the housing (14) of the drive system (10). The clutch assembly (16) is normally engaged and the brake assembly (18) is normally applied due to force being exerted by a first and second plurality of coil springs (94, 182). Power supplied to a first AC coil (90) will disengage the clutch (16) and power supplied to a second AC coil (178) will release the brake (18). The drive system (10) will therefore act as a braking system when power is terminated to the drive system (10).
