摘要： A tape drive-implemented method includes: determining a servo band configuration of servo bands on a magnetic tape, using servo readers on a magnetic tape head to read one or more of the servo bands based on the determined servo band configuration, and using information read from the one or more of the servo bands to position the magnetic tape head relative to the magnetic tape. An array of data transducers is positioned along the magnetic tape head, the array extending perpendicular to a direction of travel of the magnetic tape. Moreover, a group of the servo readers is positioned at each end of the array of data transducers, and a distance between each of the immediately adjacent servo readers in each of the groups of servo readers is less than or equal to one third of a prespecified width of each of the servo bands.

摘要： A computer-implemented method for answering a cognitive query from sensor input signals may be provided. The method comprises feeding sensor input signals to an input layer of an artificial neural network comprising a plurality of hidden neuron layers and an output neural layer, determining hidden layer output signals from each of the plurality of hidden neuron layers and output signals from the output neural layer, and generating a set of pseudo-random bit sequences by applying a set of mapping functions using the output signals of the output layer and the hidden layer output signals of one of the hidden neuron layers as input data for one mapping function. Furthermore, the method comprises determining a hyper-vector using the set of pseudo-random bit sequences, and storing the hyper-vector in an associative memory, in which a distance between different hyper-vectors is determinable.

摘要： Provided is a read channel, storage drive, and method to process signals read from a storage medium. At least one data channel including an interpolator and equalizer and a servo channel includes an interpolator. A timing recovery function processes a timing error from the interpolator in the servo channel to calculate interpolation timing information used by the interpolator to interpolate a servo channel signal. A path is coupled to the timing recovery function and the interpolator in the at least one data channel to communicate the interpolation timing information to the interpolator in the at least one data channel. The interpolator in the at least one data channel is configured to use the interpolation timing information to interpolate an asynchronous data channel signal.

摘要： A fully synchronous longitudinal position (LPOS) detection system is provided for improving the reliability of servo channels in tape systems. The system is based on the interpolation of the servo channel output signal, which is sampled by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) at a fixed sampling rate, using a clock at a nominal frequency, so that interpolated signal samples are obtained at a predetermined fixed rate, independent of tape velocity. This predetermined fixed rate is defined in terms of samples per unit of length, as opposed to samples per unit of time, which is the measure of the ADC sampling rate. The resolution with which the servo channel signal is obtained at the interpolator output is thus determined by the step interpolation distance.

摘要： Methods and apparatus are provided for memorizing data signals in a spiking neural network. For each data signal, such a method includes supplying metadata relating to the data signal to a machine learning model trained to generate an output signal, indicating a relevance class for a data signal, from input metadata for that data signal. The method includes iteratively supplying the data signal to a sub-assembly of neurons, interconnected via synaptic weights, of a spiking neural network and training the synaptic weights to memorize the data signal in the sub-assembly. The method further comprises assigning neurons of the network to the sub-assembly in dependence on the output signal of the model such that more relevant data signals are memorized by larger sub-assemblies. The data signal memorized by a sub-assembly can be subsequently recalled by activating neurons of that sub-assembly.

A rotational head position ( ∂) of the head (HU) is controlled dependent on the skew control signal ( U ∂ ) to align the head (HU) to the current tape motion direction (TMD) in such a way that the head (HU) is operable to read and/or write data.

The servo band is arranged in a sequence bursts with non- parallel servo stripes in sequentially adjacent sub-frames of a linear tape.
