摘要： An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for efficiently mapping virtual and physical addresses. A forward mapping module 702 uses a forward map 1104 to identify physical addresses 1126 of data of a data segment from a virtual address 1106. The virtual addresses 1106 include discrete addresses sparsely populated within a virtual address space. A reverse mapping module 704 uses a reverse map 1122 to determine a virtual address 1106 of a data segment from a physical address 1126. The reverse map 1122 maps the data storage device 106 into erase regions such that a portion of the reverse map 1122 spans an erase region of the data storage device 106 erased together during a storage space recovery operation. A storage space recovery module 706 uses the reverse map 1122 to identify valid data in an erase region prior to an operation to recover the erase region.

At least one storage command includes an append data storage command (614) that directs the data storage device (106) to store data of the data segment (606) and the source parameters with the data, including a virtual address, at one or more append points (620, 630). A mapping module (206) maps source parameters of the data segment (606) to locations where the data storage device (106) appended the data packets of the data segment (606) and source parameters.

摘要： An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for bad block remapping. A bad block identifier module 202 identifies data blocks on a solid-state storage element 702 as bad blocks. A log update module 204 writes a location of each bad block identified by the bad block identifier module 202 into each of two or more redundant bad block logs. A bad block mapping module 206 accesses a bad block log during a start-up operation to create in memory a bad block map. The bad block map includes a mapping between the bad block locations in the bad block log and a corresponding location of a replacement block for each bad block location. Data is stored in each replacement block instead of the corresponding bad block. The bad block mapping module 206 creates the bad block map using one of a replacement block location and a bad block mapping algorithm.

摘要： An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for coordinating storage requests in a multi-processor/multi-thread environment. A append/invalidate module 1202 generates a first append data storage command from a first storage request and a second append data storage command from a second storage request received after the first storage request. The storage requests overwrite existing data with first and second data including where the first and second data have at least a portion of overlapping data. The append/invalidate module 1202 updates an index by marking data being overwritten as invalid. A restructure module 1204 updates the index based on the first data and updates the index based on the second data. The updated index is organized to indicate that the second data is more current than the first data regardless of processing order. The modules prevent access to the index until the modules have completed updating the index.

The receive module 502 receives a read request to read data from an ECC chunk 418 spanning N storage elements 402 of an array 400 of N+P storage elements 402. The N storage elements 402 each store a portion of the ECC chunk 418 and the P storage elements 402p store parity data. The data read module 504 reads data from each of X number of storage elements 402 of the N+P storage elements 402 where (N+P) > X ≥N. The ECC correction module 506 corrects the read data of the ECC chunk 418 using Error Correcting Code ("ECC") in response to the ECC chunk 418 comprising a number of bit errors below a correctable bit error threshold. The substitution module 604 may correct the read data with substitute data from a substitute storage element 402.

摘要： An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for detecting and replacing failed data storage. A read module 1002 reads data from an array of memory devices 902, 904 including memory devices 902 and extra memory devices 904 storing parity information from the memory devices 902. An ECC module 1004 determines, using an error correcting code ("ECC"), if errors exist in tested data and if the errors are correctable using the ECC. The tested data includes data read by the read module 1002. An isolation module 1006 selects a memory device 902 in response to the ECC module 1004 determining that errors exist in the data read by the read module 1002 and that the errors are uncorrectable. The isolation module 1006 replaces data read from the selected memory device 902 with replacement data and available data wherein the tested data further includes the available data combined with the replacement data.

The storage element error module 1702 determines that one or more storage elements 402 are unavailable to store data ("unavailable storage elements"). The storage elements 402 reside in an array 400 with N number of storage elements 402 storing a first ECC chunk 418 and P number of storage elements 402p storing first parity data. The reconfigure data read module 1704 reads data from storage elements 402 other than the unavailable storage elements 402. The data regeneration module 1706 uses the first parity data to regenerate missing data from the first ECC chunk 418. The data reconfiguration module 1708 creates a second ECC chunk 418. The new configuration storage module 1710 stores a portion of the second ECC chunk 418 and associated second parity data on (N + P) - Z number of storage elements 402, wherein 1≤ Z ≤ P.

摘要： Disclosed is a front-end, distributed RAID. A storage request receiver module (2102) receives a storage request to store data in autonomous storage devices (150) forming a RAID group. The storage devices (150) independently receive storage requests from a client (114) over a network (116), and one or more of the storage devices (150) are designated as parity-mirror storage devices (1602) for a stripe. The striping association module (2104) calculates a stripe pattern for the data. Each stripe includes N data segments, each associated with N storage devices (150). The parity-mirror association module (2106) associates a set of the N data segments with one or more parity-mirror storage devices (1602). The storage request transmitter module (2108) transmits storage requests to each storage device (150, 1602). Each storage request is sufficient to store onto the storage device (150, 1602) associated data segments. The storage requests are substantially free of data.
