    • This invention is generally directed toward a supported catalyst system useful for polymerizing olefins. The method for supporting the catalyst of the invention provides for a supported bulky ligand transition metal metallocene catalyst having improved activity which when utilized in a polymerization process substantially reduces the reactor fouling and sheeting particularly in a gas phase polymerization process. In one embodiment a method is provided to produce a supported bulky ligand transition metal catalyst system by contacting a porous carrier with at least one bulky ligand transition metal compound, such as a metallocene compound, followed by the addition of a cocatalyst or activator. In another embodiment a method is provided to produce a supported catalyst system by contacting a porous carrier with an organometallic compound then adding at least one metallocene component followed by an activator. In another embodiment the activator of the invention is hydrolyzed at least once after its initial formation. In another embodiment of the invention, there is provided a process for producing polyolefins by contacting olefin monomer, optionally with comonomer in the presence of the catalyst system described above.

    • The invention is generally directed toward a supported catalyst system useful for polymerizing olefins. The method for forming the catalyst system of the invention provides for supporting a bulky ligand transition metal compound on a carrier and separately supporting a cocatalyst or activator for the bulky compound. The bulky ligand transition metal compound of the invention can be a metallocene. The metallocene catalyst systems of the invention have unexpectedly high activity as compared with most catalysts systems previously described where the metallocene and activator are on one carrier. The invention provides for the ability to manipulate the catalyst system easily by varying the quantities of the individually supported components of the invention. Until now previous catalyst system had to be reformulated from scratch, which is expensive and time consuming. Additionally it is now possible with catalyst systems of the invention to conveniently change the catalyst system, by adjusting the catalyst to activator ratio in a continuous polymerization process, particularly in gas phase process and to allow for quicker transitioning periods between polymer grades.

    • This invention is directed toward the polymerization of olefins, optionally with a comonomer in the presence of metallocene catalyst to produce a polymer product having a controlled molecular weight distribution, ranging from narrow to broad, a high molecular weight and a narrow composition distribution. The catalyst of the invention provides for linear polyethylenes and ethylene- alpha -olefin copolymers with substantially higher melt strength than linear polyethylenes produced with a conventional Ziegler-Natta catalyst or a typical metallocene catalyst. The invention provides a catalyst for polymerizing olefins comprising a first component comprising at least one transition metal of Group IV, V or VI and bonded to at least two cyclopentadienyl containing rings, said rings each having at least two substituents bonded to each of said rings in the same position; a second component comprising said transition metal and said cyclopentadienyl containing rings, said rings each having at least two substituents bonded to each of said rings in the same or different position than said substituents of said first component; said substituents of the said first and second components can be the same or different, with the provision that when the substituents of said first and second components are the same, said substituents of said components are bonded to said rings in different positions; and a third component comprising said transition metal bonded to said cyclopentadienyl containing rings where one of said rings is substituted identically as said first component and another of said rings is substituted identically as said second component. The invention further provides for catalyst systems comprising the catalyst component above in combination with a cocatalyst and/or activator for the catalyst. The cocatalyst or activator can be either alumoxane or an ionic activator.

    • This invention is generallly directed toward a supported catalyst system useful for polymerizing olefins. The method for forming the catalyst system of the invention provides for combining a monocyclopentadienyl bulky ligand transition metal catalyst system with a separately supported organometallic compound. A preferred method provides for supporting the catalyst system on a carrier and contacting such supported system with a separately supported organometallic compound. The bulky ligand transition metal compound used in the catalyst system of the invention can be a metallocene. The ionic metallocene catalyst systems of the invention have unexpectedly high activity as compared to the catalyst systems previously described. In one embodiment of the present invention the supported catalyst is a monocylcopentadienyl transition metal metallocene compound and an ionic activator. Thus, the supported catalyst system of the present invention is broadly defined as a catalyst system which comprises a carrier, a monocyclopentadienyl bridged heteroatom transition metal containing compound, an ionic activator and a supported organometallic compound.
