摘要： An object in a body of liquid such as seawater is detected by transmitting a signal, receiving a reflection of the signal, repeatedly determining the phase of the reflection, and detecting whether the distribution of the differences between phases of the reflection occurring at intervals which are no less than a predetermined value is significantly non-uniform. The influence of the phases on the detection of non-uniform distribution is weighted in accordance with the power of the reflection at the time of occurrence of the respective phases. A signal indicative of the presence of an object is provided in dependence on the result of the detection step.
