摘要： A process for treating sulphate containing effluent, which includes receiving a sulphide containing effluent into a two-phase fluidised bed reactor containing particles and floating media, permitting calcium carbonate from the effluent to precipitate on particles in the first fluidised bed reactor, aerating the solution in the reactor to remove CO2 from the solution, thereby to increase the pH in the reactor, permitting biological sulphide oxidation to occur on the floating media by means of sulphide oxidizing bacteria thereby to produce elemental sulphur, recycling the fluidised bed reactor at a sufficient rate to effect abrasion to remove elemental sulphur from the floating media, harvesting the sulphur from a top portion of the reactor, recycling hydroxyl ions internally in solution in to enhance calcium carbonate precipitation by further increasing the pH.

摘要： A microfiltration filter, an assembly containing such a filter and a method of manufacturing such a filter is provided. In one embodiment the method comprises folding a sheet of woven fibre filtration material onto itself, thereby providing an elongate double sheet of filtration material having two substantially parallel planar sides with aligned edges. The double sheet has open and blind long edges and two short opposing open edges. The method includes positioning an elongate collection manifold between the sides at least partway along and at or near the blind edge, providing a fluid outlet in at least one of the sides wherein the fluid outlet is in fluid communication with an interior of the collection manifold. The method further includes sealing the open long edge and short edges of the double sheet to form a liquid impervious seal and a planar, elongate collection chamber between the sides, and folding the elongate collection chamber across the long edges to create a filter with multiple adjacent layers of the planar, elongate collection chamber.

摘要： A process for treating water includes adding magnetite seed to water containing dissolved ferrous and/or non-ferrous metals, to form seeded water. If necessary, ferrous iron is added to the water, and the pH of the seeded water is raised to a level at which a solid ferrous intermediate forms, or is present, in the seeded water and/or the water is maintained at such a pH level. The resultant seeded ferrous intermediate-containing water is subjected to controlled oxidation of the ferrous intermediate at substantially ambient temperature to produce, as an oxidation product, ferrite(s) comprising magnetite. At least a predetermined or threshold ferrous intermediate concentration is maintained in the water during the controlled oxidation of the water. Ferrite is separated from the water.

摘要： A process for treating sulphide-containing water includes maintaining a steep redox potential gradient in an interface zone of the sulphide-containing water. The water is exposed to an oxygen-containing environment, and the interface zone is located immediately below the surface of the water. Sulphide in the water is biologically oxidized, in the interface zone, to sulphur. The sulphur may be removed by settling, thereby achieving a final removal of sulphur compounds.
