摘要： The present disclosure provides a method for reducing radioactivity from an aqueous dispersion, the method comprising providing a dispersion comprising one or more radioactive substances, providing a first metal, a second metal and a boron compound in the dispersion, wherein the first metal is arranged to act as precipitation nuclei for precipitating the second metal as a metal borate, wherein the precipitation nuclei are formed in a previous precipitation reaction either i) by first precipitating the first metal into metal hydroxide at a first pH to form precipitation nuclei, which takes place at a lower pH than the hydroxide precipitation of the second metal, and/or ii) by adding a metal borate of the first metal to act as precipitation nuclei, providing the pH of the dispersion at an initial pH, providing alkali to increase pH of the dispersion, allowing the precipitation nuclei to precipitate the second metal as a borate at a higher second pH, and allowing the second metal borate to act as precipitation nuclei for precipitating at least the first metal as a metal borate, to precipitate and/or coprecipitate the one or more radioactive substances. The present disclosure also provides use of a boron compound for reducing radioactivity, and a transportable container containing a system or an apparatus for carrying out the method.

摘要： A system and method of adjusting alkalinity/pH of a solution. The method includes providing at least one liquid stream to flow by a filtration membrane and applying a potential difference across a first electrode and a second electrode. The first electrode and the second electrode are disposed at different sides of the filtration membrane. The filtration membrane separates the liquid stream into a first stream and a second stream on either side of the filtration membrane. The first stream is configured to flow by the first electrode to form a first effluent stream characterized by a first alkalinity/pH, and the second stream is configured to flow by the second electrode to form a second effluent stream characterized by a second alkalinity/pH different from the first alkalinity/pH.

The method generally involves providing high strength wastewater and waste activated sludge from a wastewater treatment plant to a first reactor, forming a mixed liquor therefrom, aerating the mixed liquor, allowing the aerated mixed liquor to settle to form a clarified supernatant and a biomass, and providing the clarified supernatant to a liquid treatment train of the wastewater treatment plant. After allowing the mixed liquor to settle into the clarified supernatant and the biomass, the biomass may be provided to a second reactor, aerated, and provided to a solid treatment train of a wastewater treatment plant. The system generally includes a first reactor, a second reactor and optionally, a mechanical sludge thickening apparatus that are coupled to a high strength wastewater source and a wastewater treatment plant having a liquid treatment train and a solid treatment train.
