    • The present disclosure provides novel methods for use in producing a composition, such as, but not limited to, a polyimide composition. Furthermore, the present disclosure provides a novel suspension device for use in such methods. The methods in their most general form comprise providing a workpiece, suspending the workpiece and subjecting the suspended workpiece to processing such that the workpiece undergoes a transformation from a first state to a second state. By maintaining the workpiece in a suspended state during processing, processing-related defects are reduced or eliminated. Using such methods, the present disclosure provides compositions that are have no or reduced processing-related defects. In addition, the compositions are more consistent in chemical and physical properties and are cheaper and more economical to produce (since less product is rejected as unsuitable).

    • A method and apparatus for controlling the pressure within an enclosure (10) are provided. A vacuum pump (15) having an inlet which is selectably connectable to an outlet of an enclosure via an exhaust conduit (20) provided in combination with first (35) and second (40) chambers for receiving gas from the enclosure (10) and returning gas thereto. Each chamber (35, 40) is selectably connectable to the exhaust conduit (20) when it is receiving gas from the enclosure and is selectably connectable directly to the enclosure (10) when gas is being returned to the enclosure. The conveyance of gas to and from each of the chambers (35, 40) is controlled such that when gas is being returned from one of the chambers to the enclosure (10), gas is being drawn from the other chamber by the vacuum pump (15) to enable the other chamber subsequently to receive gas from the enclosure (10) .
