    • A control system for a vehicle includes a controller, an object sensor, and a motor. The motor receives power from a power source upon receiving a panel control signal. The motor moves a movable panel of the vehicle along a path between opened and closed positions when the motor receives power from the power source. The object sensor is operable for detecting objects in the path of the panel without monitoring the motor. The object sensor generates an object signal indicative of an object being detected in the panel path. The controller is operable for transmitting a panel control signal to the motor to move the panel. When the panel is moving in a closing direction the controller transmits a panel control signal to the motor to reverse movement of the panel to an opening direction upon receiving the object signal to prevent the panel from entrapping an object.

    • A fluid turbidity or filter clog sensor having a light source (20) and a detector having at least one sensor position to cross a flow path or a filter element in order to improve the correspondence of the light intensity received at the receiver in correspondence with the turbidity level or clogging level occurring in the test cell. The detector preferably includes a direct path sensor (22), a scattered path sensor (32) positioned to cross the flow path from the transmitter, and the reference light sensor (40) communicating with the source (20) outside of the test chamber (26). The direct path may be a straight line path or a reflected path through the flow path when a fluid having a low level of turbidity is passed through the test cell. Likewise, the sensor includes means for compensating for changes in the illuminating source and changes for temperature variations occurring at the test cell.

    • A system or method for tracking items proximate a user interface device include a user interface device having at least one solid-state touch-sensitive region and a receiver for wirelessly receiving a signal from at least one item to determine proximity of the item relative to the user interface device. The device may also include a display screen for displaying controls and information. The user interface device may be permanently or removably mounted in a vehicle and used to interface with vehicle systems and personal electronic devices for control and information display. Tracked items or objects may include passive or active data tags and communicate identification information and optionally position information to the user interface device. The device may alert the user to movement of tracked objects, and/or confirm presence of a group of objects intended for a particular task or project.
