摘要： Methods, systems and data processing apparatus and methods are described for use in planning and carrying out a surgical procedure on a joint of a subject. The joint includes a first component and a second component, the first and second components being relatively movable. Joint data describing the configuration of the joint is captured while the joint is in a functional state in which the joint is undergoing its usual load bearing functional behaviour. The joint data is analysed to determine joint component orientation data specifying the relative orientation of the first and second components. The orientation of prosthetic implants to be used in the surgical procedure to recreate the joint is planned using the joint component orientation data. The planned orientation of the prosthetic implants improves the recreation of the functional state of the joint.

摘要： A method and image processing system for correcting motion artefacts in captured projection images of a body part caused by movement relative to the co-ordinate system of an imaging system between capture of the images are described. A first image data set is obtained representing a first captured image of the body part for which the imaging system had a first geometry. A second image data set is obtained representing a second captured image of the same body part for which the imaging system had a second geometry and in which the second captured image is from a different direction to the first captured image. The position of at least a first anatomical landmark point is identified in the first captured image from first image data set. The position of the at least first anatomical landmark point is projected into the second captured image. A transformation required to map the position of the same anatomical landmark point from the second image data set onto the projected position of the at least first anatomical landmark is determined. The so determined transformation represents the true position of the body part relative to the imaging system when the second image was captured.

The kit of parts can include a surgical item, a marker assembly and at least one further marker separate to the marker assembly. The marker assembly comprises at least two markers and can be attached to the surgical item at a plurality of positions. The further marker can be mounted on the surgical item at a fixed position on the surgical item relative to a part of the surgical item to be tracked. When assembled, the position of said further marker relative to said marker assembly allows a tracking system to track the part of the surgical item with the marker assembly at any of the plurality of positions.

摘要： An implantable marker, instruments for implanting the marker and method for implanting the marker are described. The implanta+e marker comprises a housing with an outer surface providing a bone anchor and having a cavity within which a marker detectable by a tracking system is secured. The kit includes a guide instrument having a guide channel for receiving an implanta+e marker, an insertion tool receivable within the channel and having a distal end for releasably engaging an implanta+e marker, and an implanta+e marker receiva+e within the channel. The insertion tool is operable to drive the implanta+e marker into the bone. The method includes puncturing the skin with an instrument, driving the implanta+e marker into the bone and withdrawing the instrument, leaving the marker implanted within the bone.

摘要： Orthopaedic operating systems, operating rooms, computer aided surgical methods, trackable implants, instruments and surgical planning and IGS software applications are described. The integrated surgical system is for use in an orthopaedic operating room to enable a surgeon to carry out a computer aided surgical procedure on a subject. A subject support, wireless magnetic tracking system, registration system, at least a first display device, a control system and a surgeon interface operable by the surgeon to control operation of the plurality of parts of the integrated surgical system are provided. The method comprises determining the position of at least a first marker being wirelessly tracked by a wireless magnetic tracking system, registering the position of the body part of the subject with an image of the body part of the subject, displaying a registered image of the body part of the subject and at least an image representative of an implant, and receiving a command from a surgeon interface operable by the surgeon.
