摘要： A timing device for visually indicating the passage of a duration of time is disclosed. The timing device and system, in accordance with the embodiments of the invention, is sectioned into zones with different rates of reactivity and/or sensitivity, such that the zones change color or darken over a range of times. The timing device, in accordance with further embodiments of the invention, comprises a film, that is a color film, a black and white film or a combination thereof, with a photographic layer and a developer layer, which when brought together activate the device. The photographic film can be pre-exposed to light or heat to control the rate that the film changes color or darkens after being activated. Pieces of timing film, in accordance with further embodiments of the invention, have adhesion layers for attaching the pieces of timing film to perishable articles or packages containing perishable articles and are preferably configured to be dispensed from a roll or stack of the timing film.

The environmental attribute drives and speeds up or slows the timing device as the concentration of the attribute increases or decreases, respectively. Particularly, sensing materials of varying types are able to be used to indicate exposure to a variety of substances. For example, in some embodiments, the timing device comprises a sensing material which is sensitive to the presence of ultraviolet radiation. Alternatively, the sensing material is sensitive to other variables such as x-ray radiation and nuclear radiation. In further embodiments, the sensing material is sensitive to biological or physical contamination.

摘要： A communication system for a vehicle includes a vehicle speed sensor configured to emit a periodic function with a parameter correlated to the speed of the vehicle, an acceleration monitoring system, a braking system engagement detector to detect a braking status of the vehicle, an alerting device capable of signaling other drivers of a deceleration condition of the vehicle, and a control device. The acceleration monitoring system is configured to compute the acceleration of the vehicle from variations in the parameter of the periodic function of the vehicle speed sensor and to output a deceleration status of the vehicle. The control device is coupled to the acceleration monitoring system, the braking system engagement detector, and the alerting device, wherein the acceleration monitoring system sends signals to the control device and the control device operates the alerting device in a manner dependent on the deceleration status of the vehicle.

摘要： A timing device for indicating a passage of a duration of time is disclosed. The timing device in accordance with the embodiments of the invention has a grid array architecture. The grid array architecture includes an electrode structure with an anode layer, a cathode layer and a thermistor layer. The anode layer and the thermistor layer are electrically coupled through a plurality of cathode trace structures. In operation the timing device is actuated through a suitable mechanism to initiate depletion of the anode layer and, thereby, indicate a passage of a duration time. As the anode layer depletes, sequential cathode trace structures are exposed and the thermistor layer acts as a temperature dependent resistor through a plurality of exposed cathode trace structures.
