    • The invention relates to a hoist apparatus (10) including at least one of a three-part double reeved bottom block (56) that has the same height profile as a two-part bottom block and the same lifting capacity as a three-part bottom block that includes an integral equalizer sheave nest, a device for limiting the rotation of a hoist drum (46) beyond a desired position, a hybrid gear box (62) adapted for use on two different categories and/or types of hoist apparatuses through the use of an adapter plate (214) that permits coupling of the gearbox (62) to the hoist drum (46) of the hoist apparatus in a plurality of configurations and an external ring gear (218) that results in a second output torque and speed of the gearbox, a self-lubricating load braking assembly (400) having lubrication inlet holes (460) and lubrication outlet holes (464) for pumping lubrication into and out of the load brake assembly (400), a gearbox (62a)for use on the hoist apparatus (10) including a two-stage high gear ratio gear set (470) and a load brake assembly (400), a controller (500) configured to acquire operational data representative of the hoist apparatus (10) and generate an output indicative of a remaining useful life of the hoist apparatus, and an inverter controller (1080) configured to control verify load integrity and prevent possible load loss without the use of a load brake assembly (400) and/or an encoder or similar feedback device.

    • A stage installation for vertical movement of multiple stage elements (10) has a computer controlled winch assembly comprising a support member (40a) having a channel (42), a platform (48) adjacent the support member (40a), electrical control and electrical power raceways (46, 44) in the channel (42), and a multiplicity of winches (50) supported on the platform (48). The winches (50) include a housing (52), a bidirectional servomotor (58), a rotating drum (54) driven by the motor (58) in either direction to haul or pay out cables (30) operatively connected to the stage elements (10). Connectors (60, 62) are coupled to the electrical power and electrical control raceways (44, 46), and a remote computer terminal (80) transmits signals to the winches (50) to initiate and terminate operation of the servomotor (58).

    • A cable foul sensor device (10) for winches includes a flapper plate (39) extending from a cover (36) for the cable drum (16), and a sensing finger (40) extending along the edge of the flapper plate (39) to terminate above an upper layer of cable (18) wound on the drum (16). The flapper plate (39) is connected to a pivot member (46) through which adjustable set screws (52, 53) are mounted. A stationary housing (50A, 50B) for spring loaded switches (58A, B, 60A, B) is mounted on the cover (36) and includes an activator plate (56) which is depressed downward by the set screw of the pivot member to force the switches to the closed position to provide power for the drum (16). Upon fouling of the cable (18) at the drum (16), the cable foul will displace the sensing finger (40) and the flapper plate (39) which will cause the pivot member (46) to pivot away from the activator plate (56), thereby permitting the spring loaded switches to bias in the open position to interrupt power to and lock the drum (16). An audio and/or visual signal is provided to indicate that a cable foul at the drum (16) has occurred.
