    • The invention relates to a handover method in a cellular radio system, and a cellular radio system. The cellular radio system comprises at least one subscriber terminal (101 and 102) and a base station (103 - 107), and in the system the subscriber terminal (101) maintains and continuously updates an active set of base stations (103 - 106), one or several base station (103 - 106) belonging to the active set having a connection or connection set-up facilities to the subscriber terminal. The subscriber terminal (101) controls the downlink transmission of one or several base stations (103 - 106) of the active set by switching the transmission of the base station on or off. This method provides a fast soft handover similar to the hard handover.

    • The invention relates to a method and system by means of which a large number of peripheral modules (TRn) can request service from a controller, e.g. in form of an interrupt request. Congestion of service requests is prevented in advance by assigning a predetermined time slot to each peripheral module (TRn) during which it is allowed to ask for service from the controller. The time slots are coordinated by a time slot counter which is stepped with a clock signal (CLK). The time slot counters of the different peripheral modules are synchronized with a synchronization signal (SYNC). The peripheral modules (TRn) may include subperipheral modules, whereby each subperipheral module can request service independently, or a gate N1 coupled to a register SR1 may be employed for detecting that a subperipheral module requires service.

    • The system described adapts packets of the fixed network directly to a DAB protocol packet channel. From the incoming packet stream, desired packets are separated by means of a receiving unit (63, 64, 65). An address and protocol converter (66) is used for separating packet addressing from the packet, and converting the addressing into the address of a mobile DAB receiver by using a conversion table. The converted address is transferred to the Data Group address field. Following this, DAB packets are made up from the Data Group in a manner known per se, and the converted address has also been transferred to the address field of the DAB packets. The packets are transferred to buffers (67) and further to the DAB system (B). The system is particularly well suited to adapting ATM cells and FR frames to the DAB system.

    • The invention relates to a method for providing delivery confirmations of message deliveries made in a telephone network (10). The method comprises the following steps: (a) a subscriber A provides a message addressed to a subscriber B, which message is temporarily stored in a storage device (14) located in the network, (b) an attempt is made for delivering the stored message to subscriber B, and (c) after the delivery attempts, subscriber A is delivered a confirmation of the result of the message delivery. In order that the confirmations can be provided as simply as possible from the subscriber's point of view, and causing a minimum load to the network, the network maintains subscriber-specific information on whether the subscriber has such a message delivery service available that allows delivery of subscriber-specific messages, whereby upon delivering a confirmation, it is possible to route a confirmation addressed to subscriber A to the message delivery service (15) on the basis of the information, if need be.

    • Many digital processors have an asynchronous bus controlled by two control signals (ENA', RWN). To interface a synchronous memory to an asynchronous bus, interface logic is required. In the interface (3) for transferring data (DATA) from an asynchronous circuit (1) to a synchronous circuit (2), data to be written are written in an intermediate register (DR) while the timing control signals (ENA', RWN) are being synchronized to the system clock (CKO) by means of flip-flops. Correspondingly, in the interface (4) for transferring data (DATA) from the synchronous circuit (2) to the asynchronous circuit (1), the signal (RWN) indicating a read transaction from the synchronous circuit is synchronized to the system clock by means of a flip-flop circuit.

    • The invention relates to a mobile communication system that is a multiband network comprising a plurality of bands. The 900 MHz frequency range of the GSM system and the 1800 MHz frequency range of the DCS system is used as an example. In accordance with the invention, the network transmits to the mobile station information not only on the frequencies of another band to be monitored, but also on how many monitored adjacent band frequencies the mobile station should report. The number of adjacent band frequencies to be reported on, given in the information, is not constant, but the network changes it as needed. In this way the network obtains adequate information on the adjacent band frequencies to perform handover between the bands.

    • The invention relates to a digital data transmission system with a non-transparent circuit-switched data connection (V.110) between a transmitting (A) and a receiving party (B), whose nominal data transmission rate may vary during a call. The data connection uses a sliding-window data flow control protocol involving transmission of data frames in a preset order, checking the order of received data frames based on this order information, acknowledgement of properly received data frames and retransmission of incorrect or missing data frames. The transmissing party (A) may temporarily group the data frames, whereby the resulting "wrong" order of frames inside the group or between groups may cause unnecessary retransmissions. In the invention this is eliminated so that the receiving party (B), upon detection of a missing data frame, delays the transmission of a retransmission request for a period of time that will ensure that the missing frame has not been sent later.

    • The invention relates to a method of providing a subscriber-specific service by an intelligent network. In the method, a service logic program is stored in a database (BD1, DB2) of the intelligent network and a subscriber-specific service is provided by starting said service logic program in response to a predefined trigger condition. In order that subscriber-specific services could be implemented economically on a really large scale, (a) the service logic program is implemented as a service logic program (400) common to a plurality of subscribers, (b) subscriber-specific information relating to the service is stored, for each subscriber, separately from said service logic program, and (c) in the service logic program there are defined points from which the program reads, during the execution, subscriber-specific information on an individual subscriber, whereby the execution of the common service logic program with the read subscriber-specific information provides said subscriber-specific service.
