    • A method for accessing a previously stored message left by a call originator at a destination subscriber's "Voice Mail" box. The method comprises the steps of: calling an unavailable destination, determining if a previously stored message left by the same call originator exists, notifying the call originator if an old message exists, and upon his request allowing him to access the old message and manipulate it. Additionally disclosed are a system and methods for handling messages left by a call originator at the destination subscriber's voice mail box. A preferred method comprises the steps of: calling an unavailable subscriber who has voice mail; recording and leaving a message in the voice mail box of the intended destination subscriber; after recording the message, caller decides weather to request notification when the message is heard by the recipient destination subscriber; the message is played by recipient, recipient decides whether to record a reply message for the caller; in case such a reply message has been recorded, the call originator is notified; in the case that the recipient decides not to record a reply message and there is a notification request by the caller as to when his message is heard, the recipient can chose to consent to or refuse such notification; in case the call originator receives notification that a reply message has been recorded in the destination subscriber's voice mail, he may enter the destination subscriber's voice mail box and play it, and if required, record a new message without the need of redialing.

    • A voice message store and forward service (20) includes voice message store and forward units ("VMSFUs") that intercommunicate by employing a protocol A for transferring voice messages between VMSFUs with user information transfer units that include the voice message and a message envelope containing enhanced feature information, and service information transfer units that include notifications of successful and/or unsuccessful transfer of a user message. The method for notifying a user of an event can include the steps of: receiving user input on notification criteria; listening for an event; detecting the event; calling the user by telephone when the detected event matches the notification criteria; requesting a user response indicating a live person answered the telephone; receiving the user response indicating the live person answered the telephone; and providing the user with information about the event.     • There is disclosed a method and a system for permitting a caller to access a user's voice mail system in a wireless telecommunications system (10) to obtain location information of the user where the user defines in the voice mail system a location profile for at least one predetermined calling party. The telecommunications system routes an incoming call to the user and when the call cannot be completed to the user the call is routed to the voice mail system together with the call line identity of the caller. The voice mail system compares (112) with the call line identity of the user with the user defined call line identities and where there is a match (114) the voice mail system responds to the caller with a message indicating the location of the user. The location of the user is forwarded from the home location register in the wireless telecommunication systems to the voice mail system through the mobile switching center when the call is routed by the mobile switching center to the voice mail system. There is also disclosed a system for informing a caller if at least one previous message deposited by the caller for user in the voice mail system of the user has been retrieved or reviewed by the user. The voice mail system has defined (200) therein a logged profile by the user which identifies incoming calls or callers having access to being able to review the message by the predetermined calling line identity. When the call is routed to the users voice mail, the voice mail system determines if the calling line identity of the incoming call matches (210) that in the users profile and if so advises (212) if any previous messages have been not read prior to prompting (214) the caller to deposit a voice mail message.
