    • A method for detecting a disturbance in a power system (1) within a digital substation and an apparatus using the same. The method includes: sensing electrical parameters at an end of a transmission line (10); sampling the sensed electrical parameters; extracting traveling-wave information from high frequency component of the samples using a signal processing method; and if the extracted traveling-wave information indicating occurrence of the disturbance, transmitting the extracted traveling-wave information to an intelligent electronic device of the digital substation (11) from a merging unit (112) or non-conventional instrument transformer of the digital substation (11). As compared with the amount of the sample data of the sensed electrical parameters, the amount of the data representing the extracted traveling-wave information is reduced. Thus the extracted traveling-wave information can be transmitted via a data link with a relatively narrow bandwidth, such as the process bus under standard IEC 61850.

    • A method for identifying the fault by current differential protection and a device thereof are provided. The method comprises: measuring the full component currents of the two terminals of a two-terminal line system and calculating the corresponding fault component current vectors; obtaining an operate value by calculating a first difference between an absolute value of the sum of the fault component current vectors and Iset1; obtaining a restrain value by multiplying a second difference with a control factor, in which the second difference is calculated between the maximum of the absolute values of the fault component currents and Iset2 or between the absolute value of the difference of said fault component currents and Iset2; and identifying a fault as an external one or internal one by comparing the operate value with the restrain value. The solutions of the present intention achieve better reliability, sensitivity and faster speed than existing products.

    • Methods for generating depth maps from monocular still image or monocular video and systems using the same are provided. First, an initial depth map is estimated or arbitrary defined. For video inputs, motion information can be used, for still image the initial background can be arbitrary set by default, chosen by the user or can be estimated. Estimation of the initial depth map can be based on a contrast map or a blur map. The initial depth map defines initial depth values for the respective pixels of the monocular image or monocular motion picture frames. The respective pixels of the original image or video frame data are mapped to the initial depth map according to positions of the pixels, in order to obtain corresponding initial depth values. An image data space of the image is subdivided into a plurality of sub-image spaces, and the initial depth value of each of the pixels of the image is filtered according to the initial depth values of the pixels located in the same sub-image space, in order to obtain depth information for the pixels.
