摘要： A system for (and a method of) selectively establishing communication with one of plural devices associated with a single telephone number during a disaster or disaster recovery period. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes two wireless connection units, each connected between a respective private branch exchange (PBX) network and a public switched telephone network. Each wireless connection unit preferably serves as a gateway between its respective PBX network and one or more remote communication devices. The wireless connection units replicate each others databases. In the event of a disaster that destroys or renders one of the wireless connect/PBX networks inoperable, telephone calls destined for the inoperable network are seamlessly routed to the operable wireless connect/PBX network. Since the operable wireless connection unit contains information for both networks, inbound, outbound and extension to extension calls for each network can be handled despite the disaster.

摘要： Predictive dialing system (100) and method is disclosed. Telephone numbers from a call list (Fig. 2) are automatically dialed and response received is analyzed. Message content in the response is detected using a speech recognizer and one or more follow-up actions based on the message content are performed. The follow-up actions may include rescheduling the call if the telephone number dialed is busy, not answering, or otherwise not working. Another follow-up action may include dynamically updating the list of telephone numbers in the call list, for example, if an operator message indicating that the phone number is no longer in service or that phone number has changed to a new number. Yet another follow-up action may include transferring the call to a live agent, for example, if a live greeting is received.

摘要： Methods and apparatus are provided for determining market statistics for communication service providers. Determinations of whether or not a sampling of telephone numbers are assigned by a particular service provider are employed to determine market statistics. A message (630) which is used to obtain a response (640). The response (640) is interpreted to determine whether or not the telephone number associated with the wireless device is assigned (650). Alternatively, a sampling of telephone numbers are dialed over a digital line (620). Based upon the result of the dialing, it is determined whether or not the telephone numbers are assigned by the service provider. Telephone numbers which have been ported between service providers in networks which employ local number portability can be accounted for in the determination of market statistics. A telephone number portability database can also be employed for determining whether or not a telephone number is assigned (650) by a service provider.

摘要： A disclosed notification and response system enables applications to communicate with recipients using a number of different media. The notification and response system (i) sends requests to one or more recipients, using the medium specified by each individual recipient; (ii) collects and processes responses; and (iii) forwards the responses to their final destination by means of the medium specified by the final destination. Applications frame requests in at least one supported human language and media format, and the request is delivered to the appropriate recipient(s), according to their preferences. Communication flow expressions specify the recipients for a given request, and how, when and where each recipient shall receive the request. Requests are dynamically updated, and the parameters of a communication flow expression are not evaluated, until the request is delivered. Communication flow rules specify recipient's communication preferences and tailor communication flows to characteristics of the sender, the topic or scheduling constraints. Communication flow expressions are evaluated using a three-valued logic: notification failure (maybe), response failure (false) and response success (true). Primitives specify simultaneous or sequential contact, and when execution of the sub-expression should terminate by defining a logical combination of success test results.

摘要： A CTI system comprising a switch and a CTI controller therefor, a plurality of telephones connected to the switch, and a telephony card connected to the switch. When an incoming call is received for a user who has specified multiple telephone alerting, including a remote telephone, the CTI controller commands the switch to route the call to the card, generates a second call ID which is different from the first call ID already allocated by the switch for the incoming call, commands the card to make an outgoing call, associated with that second call ID, via the switch to the remote telephone, and to join the calls when the outgoing call is answered. The card will now be able to monitor the network signalling and report to the CTI controller when the remote telephone clears down. The association of a different call ID with the outgoing leg from the telephony card prevents an Automatic Route Optimisation function of the switch from clearing down the legs to and from the telephony card and joining the incoming and outgoing calls via its internal switching mechanism, which would result in the consequent loss of monitoring ability for the telephony status of that call.

A communication system includes a gateway (201) that receives a signal to establish a call with a called (229, 233) station from a calling station (237, 239) in a telephone network, such as a Class 3 network (205), associated with one of a plurality of customers. The gateway (201) generates a message according to a prescribed application layer protocol to establish the call with the called station (229, 233) over the data network (231). The message includes an alias host address identifying the one customer. The system also includes a server (225) that receives the message from the gateway and to route the call to the called station (229, 233) based upon the alias host address.
