摘要： A medical device for treating hip joint osteoarthritis in a human patient by providing at least one artificial hip joint surface is provided. The hip joint having a ball shaped caput femur as the proximal part of the femoral bone with a convex hip joint surface towards the centre of the hip joint and a bowl shaped etabulum as part of the pelvic bone with a concave hip joint surface towards the centre of the hip joint. The medical device comprises the artificial hip joint surface comprising at least one of; an artificial caput femur or an artificial caput femur surface comprising, a convex form towards the centre of the hip joint, and an artificial acetabulum or an artificial acetabulum surface comprising, a concave form towards the centre of the hip joint. The artificial convex caput femur or the artificial convex caput femur surface is adapted to be fixated to the pelvic bone of the human patient and the artificial concave acetabulum or artificial concave acetabulum surface is adapted to be fixated to the femoral bone of the human patient.

摘要： A method for performing an acetabular arthroplasty in an acetabulum of an ilium may include locating an iliac canal of the ilium. The iliac canal extends from the surface of the acetabulum generally toward a portion of the iliac ridge. An impacting step impacts a non-rotating bone removal tool aligned along the iliac canal such that the non-rotating bone removal tool removes bone within the iliac canal and forms a bone void. Another step secures a fixation implant within the canal void. An acetabular implant is installed within the acetabulum over the fixation implant.

摘要： Methods, systems and apparatuses are provided for torsionally stabilizing a spinal motion segment. One or more implants are placed between two vertebrae to provide torsional stabilization. In particular, one or more implants may be fixed between a superior vertebral body, such as at the spinous process, and an inferior vertebral body. The implants may be connected to the superior vertebral body using a fixation device such as a turnbuckle, an outrigger, a thimble, an endobutton, a suture plug or combinations thereof. The implant may also be connected to the inferior vertebral body using various types of hardware, including staples, screws and anchors. The implant may be kept in tension to provide torsional stabilization and may be comprised of one or more sutures. A multi-functional instrument having one or more arms having holes can be used to clamp onto the superior vertebral body and guide one or more implants to various locations for fixation in accordance with the methods described herein.

摘要： Methods and apparatus of the present invention provide for orthopaedic total replacement of the hip while substantially preserving muscles and soft tissues around the hip joint resulting in reduced healing time and decreased risk of dislocation following the procedure. In an exemplary embodiment, the acetabulum is prepared and fitted with a prosthetic acetabular cup 702 and a prosthetic femoral head 1102 is fitted into the prosthetic acetabular cup 702. An intramedullary rod 1502 is inserted longitudinally into the femur. A prosthetic femoral neck 3102 is then inserted from a point along the side of the patient's body and into the side of the femur and through a pre-existing lateral bore in the intramedullary rod 1502 and through the remainder of the femur to join the prosthetic femoral head 1102. The methods and apparatus include structures and techniques for fixing the prosthetic femoral neck 3102 in relation to the intramedullary rod 1502.

摘要： The invention relates to a surgical implant that provides an artificial diarthroidal-like joint, suitable for use in replacing any joint, but particularly suitable for use as an intervertebral disc endoprosthesis. The invention contains two rigid opposing shells, each having an outer surface adapted to engage the surfaces of the bones of a joint in such a way that the shells are immobilized by friction between their outer surfaces and the surfaces of the bone. These outer surfaces are sufficiently rough that large frictional forces strongly resist any slippage between the outer surface and the bone surfaces in the joint. They may be convex, and when inserted into a milled concavity, are immediately mechanically stable. Desirably, the outer surfaces of the shells are adapted to allow for bony ingrowth, which further stabilizes the shells in place. The inner surfaces of the shells are relatively smooth, and adapted to slide easily across a portion of the outer surface of a central body disposed between the shells. The central body has a shape that cooperates with the shape of the inner surface of the shell so as to provide a range of motion similar to that provided by a healthy joint. A flexible sheath extends between edges of the opposing shells. The inner surface of this sheath, together with the inner surfaces of the rigid shells, defines a cavity encasing the central body. At least a portion of this cavity is filled with a fluid lubricant, further decreasing the frictional force between inner surfaces of the shell and the surface of the central body.

A curved rod (1) is supported on the frame and a plurality of cutting teeth (18) are threaded on the rod so as to be rotatable thereon. The cutting teeth are drivably interconnected so that rotation of one tooth causes an adjacent tooth to rotate.
