摘要： Disclosed is a fibrous absorbent structure that is wet stable and has large void volume with a density below the critical density of the fiber employed. In one embodiment, the fibrous absorbent uses open-celled foam technologies to keep the fibrous structure expanded and bonded. In other embodiments, the resulting fibrous structure resembles an open-celled polymeric foam, with fibers serving as struts stabilized by binder material. In another embodiment, the resulting fibrous structure is filled with hydrophilic open-celled foams with the cell size substantially smaller than the fibrous pores. Such a wet-stable, high void volume fibrous absorbent can be used in a disposable product intended for the absorption of fluid such as body fluid, including extensible absorbent articles.

摘要： A thermoplastic film is comprised of an admixture of 20 to 85 weight percent cellulose ester fibers and 80 to 15 weight percent cellulose fibers and a functional amount of a cellulose ester plasticizer. The film has an opacity in the range of 10 to 85 percent, a thickness in the range of 0.05 to 0.25 mm (0.002 to 0.010 inch), a porosity in the range of 0.0 to 50 ml/min/cm at a 1.0 centibar pressure drop and a compostability of less than 65 days fragmentation. The film is prepared by making a paper comprised of 20 to 85 weight percent cellulose ester fibers and 80 to 15 weight percent cellulose fibers and saturating the paper with a functional amount of a cellulose ester plasticizer. The saturated paper is subjected to heat and pressure for a period of time to obtain the thermoplastic film. The thermoplastic film is prepared without the use of solvents and is economically attractive since it is compatible with conventional paper printing materials and techniques.

摘要： An engineered composite building material, such as fiber cement, having one or more engineered sub-surface regions designed to provide the building material with improved moisture ingress resistance, paint adhesion, and other mechanical properties is provided. The sub-surface region has a cement-polymer matrix formed by introducing an impregnating agent into the pores of the substrate. The composite building material may be formed by applying impregnating agents to the subsurface regions of the substrate to form chemical and/or mechanical bonds with the matrix of the building material, the reinforcement fibers, and/or the surface coatings applied to the material. The thickness of the sub-surface regions may be controlled by varying the viscosity and porosity of the building material substrate. The cement-polymer building material has enhanced durability, weather resistance, strength, and stiffness.
