摘要： A method and apparatus for measuring stress or strain in a portion of a ferromagnetic member is disclosed in which advantage is taken of the fact that the magnetic properties of a ferromagnetic member change with applied tensile or compressive stress. A magnetic hysteresis loop is measured in a portion of a ferromagnetic member and a model of a magnetic hysteresis loop is fitted to the measured magnetic hysteresis loop by varying at least one stress or strain dependent model variable and the fitted at least one variable is used to determine the stress or strain of the portion. The particular model disclosed is a predator/prey pursuit model wherein the prey is the applied field and the predator is the flux density.

摘要： Users wishing to remotely switch their devices initiate a telephone call to a number corresponding to a computer means, the called number inherently identifying the caller, which, under the control of a software program, answers the incoming call and issues instructions to the calling user by means of voice synthesis, said instructions requesting the user to press buttons on his handset keypad corresponding to a pre-established security code associated with the remote switching apparatus. The computer means also comprises a database of numbers corresponding to remote switching apparatus and corresponding security codes. If the correct security code is transmitted by the user to the computer means then the computer means will confirm the authority of the user to activate the switching mechanism and request confirmation that the user wishes to proceed by pressing a specific key on the handset keypad. Upon depressing that key, the computer means will then initiate transmission of a calling signal only to the remote switching apparatus. Receipt of a calling signal by the remote switching apparatus then activates the switching mechanism.

摘要： A multibit flash quantizer circuit, such as included as a portion of delta-sigma conversion circuit, can be operated in a dynamic or configurable manner. Information indicative of at least one of an ADC input slew rate or a prior quantizer output code can be used to establish a flash quantizer conversion window. Within the selected conversion window, comparators in the quantizer circuit can be made active. Comparators outside the conversion window can be made dormant, such as depowered or biased to save power. An output from such dormant converters can be preloaded and latched. In this manner, full resolution is available without requiring that all comparator circuits within the quantizer remain active at all times.
