    • The present invention differs fundamentally from prior art because it provides for machining a substantial number of relatively thin annular tooling plates (10), fitting them together side-by-side in two opposed mold sides, and engraving the tread pattern into the interior face of the assembled plates in two or more complementary mold parts to form a unique tire mold (12). In one form of the disclosed construction two halves are built up and internally engraved to form a two-piece clamshell mold. This building up of annular plates (10) applies also to the construction of segmented molds, wherein there are multiple complementary mold sections which are joined to provide a complete circumferential mold. Thus, the invention applies to both two-piece clamshell molds and segmented molds. The invention encompasses an all engraved mold and all venting (22) in the circumferential direction.

    • A cured elastomeric rubber composition with a reduced coefficient of friction and a relatively high surface energy is disclosed. The composition comprises an elastomeric rubber with polar functional groups grafted to the polymer backbone. The polar functional groups can include amide, amine urethane, ester or silane functional groups. The elastomeric rubber may be any relatively non-polar elastomeric rubber such as EPDM or polyisoprene. Also incorporated into the rubber composition are various rubber additives including for example, carbon black, processing oils, curatives, and clay filler. The incorporation of various functional groups in the rubber compositions effectively reduces the coefficient of friction of the resulting cured rubber component.

    • A PCV valve assembly including (12) housing having a fluid inlet (14) and outlet. (16) A poppet valve (24) is disposed in the housing (12) between the fluid inlet (14) and outlet (16) and is moveable in an axial direction between a plurality of positions. A heating element (20) having a positive temperature coefficient material is supported in the housing in proximity to at least a portion of the valve for automatically heating the valve in response to a given voltage. The material produces a first heat in response to a first temperature and the given voltage. That is, the positive temperature coefficient material automatically regulates the flow of current and the temperature produced without the need of a theffilostat in response to the same voltage. A hose may also be used defining an air passageway and having a length is connected between the fluid outlet and an intake manifold respectively at first and second connections. The hose has a heating element arranged substantially along the length for applying heat to the bare passageway. In this manner, air entering the intake manifold in proximity to the throttle blade is heated to maintain a higher temperature to prevent blade icing.
