摘要： A services management system, which can provide services to a mobile user, can do so via a combination of network platforms (10). The system uses "Co-operating Intelligent Software Agent" technology in a heterogeneous agent architecture (25) to provide enough flexibility to deal with changing network constraints, for instance as the user moves. In an example, a fixed broadband network might be used in combination with radio transmitters of a mobile network. The agent architecture (25), involving autonomous agents working co-operatively, forms a layered system using the underlying fixed network (1) for inter-agent communication. In an application, a mobile user might move from a cell of the mobile network which can provide relatively wide bandwidth to one which can only provide limited bandwidth. The service management system can advise the user what services are available in either cell, at what price, based on current bandwidth usage at the two locations. If the user was already using a service which became unavailable in the new cell, the system will advise the user and, if appropriate, put the service effectively on hold until the user enters a cell in which the service is available once more.

Portions of data are stored in data managers (DM) at a plurality of data storage locations distributed within the network (600) independently of the application modules (AM). Each storage location is also supported by a data manager. An application module (AM) is executed to define a parameter of the data required for the execution of the application software. The data manager (DM) supporting the application module (AM) is requested to search the data managers (DM) at the data storage locations for the required data and to identify the data manager (DM) in which the required data is stored. The required data is retrieved from the identified data manager (DM) and written from the identified data manager to the application module (AM) for use during continued execution of the application software.

摘要： A personal number communications system assigns a personal number to each subscriber, and receives from each subscriber communication routing information in the form of one or more hierarchical lists of destinations based on the time of day and day of the week. The hierarchy and composition of the lists may be changed or may be overridden to direct selected communications to a specific destination. The system receives communications directed to a subscriber's personal number and identifies the source of the communication. The identification may be made through calling line identification, through a personalized list of callers, or through source identification. The system selects a first destination for the communication from the hierarchical list. At the first destination, the system announces the identified source of the communication and requests disposition information as to the acceptance, formal rejection or passive rejection, such as a no answer, of the communication. If accepted, the system routes the communication to the first destination. If rejected, the system routes the communication to the default destination selected by the subscriber. If there is a passive rejection, the system requests communication disposition information from the next destination in the destination list according to the hierarchy selected by the subscriber. The system continues to request communicatioin disposition information from each sequential destination on the destination list until the communication is accepted or until the last destination on the destination list is reached, at which point the communication is routed to the last destination.

Based upon certain criteria, service logic determines whether the call is sponsored or not. If sponsored, additional service logic utilizes the location of the call origination (i.e., location of the subscriber station) and/or other attributes of the subscriber station to select an announcement from a plurality of announcements for transmission to the subscriber station. After the announcement is transmitted (i.e., played), the subscriber station is connected to the call's desired destination. If not sponsored, the call is handled as a normal call.

摘要： To support communications system repairability, a scalable multi-level data bit stream (38), capable of supporting variable bandwidth ATM network access, includes an embedded operation channel (42) used by a transport network management system (34) to support connection maintenance, performance monitoring, path tracing, service management and testing functionalities. The transport network management system effectuates a service specific convergence sub-layer functionality to convert (256) between Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) formatted operation and maintenance managed objects and a message format for the embedded operation channel data. The conversion comprises a Remote Operations Service Element (ROSE) encapsulation (258), with the encapsulated data incorporated within the embedded operation channel of the multi-level data bit stream. An interface is provided with the ATM network through an ATM adaptation layer to segment the multi-level data bit stream into a plurality of ATM Cells (26). Operation and maintenance message communication with the transport network management system is provided for both wireless and wireline communications systems accessing the ATM network.

摘要： A subscriber enters personal information data into a personal information manager (PIM). The PIM, either automatically, or based on additional profile requests entered by the subscriber, generates profile update data associated with the personal information data. The PIM transmits the profile update data to a database in a telecommunication system which stores subscriber profile data. The transmission is via a wired communication link, a wireless communication link, or a combination of wired and wireless communication link. Upon receipt of the profile update data by the database, the subscriber profile data stored therein is updated in accordance with the subscriber profile update data.
