摘要： A microfluidic device for altering the flow of a carrier fluid containing a polymer, such that, the polymer can be positioned, aligned, or elongated. The device accomplishes these effects by directing the carrier fluid in a laminar flow into obstacles, or other fluids to knowingly alter the path of the carrier fluid streamlines. These streamlines, in turn, apply fluidic drag forces against the polymer to manipulate it into a desired configuration. Other aspects of the device retain a polymer in an aligned or elongated state with crimps which prevent portions of the polymer from coiling. These structures utilize the natural concept of increasing entropy to allow small portions of an aligned or elongated polymer to return to a high entropy, or coiled state, while retaining the majority of the polymer in a low entropy, aligned or elongated state for subsequent analysis or manipulation.

摘要： A wide variety of current diagnostic and other biochemical tests employ a substance, such as a chromagen, that undergoes a detectable color development or change of fluorescent emission in the presence of the analyte of interest. The intensity of the color or fluorescence developed may be time dependent and proportional to the concentration of the analyte of interest. Systems, methods, and components usable for quantifying the concentration of an analyte of interest in a biological sample on optical biodiscs are disclosed herein. Analytes may include, for example, glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides. In one embodiment, reagents are immobilized on the optical disc prior to the assay.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for effective investigational feature recognition in laboratory samples in optical equipment. Pixelization permits investigational feature recognition at the digitized waveform level instead of at the image level. Pixelization can be used with a bio-disc and its related disc drive assembles. The analog signal from the drive's detector is sampled into a digital waveform. Patterns in the waveform that match the features in the laboratory samples are counted. Synchronizing the sampling rate with the bio-disc drive clock cycle is provided. Other embodiments include calibrating the sampling rate using wobble grooves, pit fields, and an external sampling card with its associated counting software.

摘要： A liquid sample dispenser for use with an optical analysis disc. The dispenser includes a body portion, a tip portion connected to the body portion, first and second retainer members moveably supported within the tip portion, and a sealant contained between the first and second retainer members. One of the retainer members also functions as an inlet stopper. The associated optical analysis disc includes a substrate and a channel layer associated with the substrate. The disc further includes a cover portion located so that the channel layer is positioned between the substrate and the cover portion. An inlet port formed in the cover portion is adapted to receive a test sample from the tip portion of the dispenser. The sample is loaded form the dispenser into the disc followed by the inlet stopper and sealant to seal the sample in the disc. Related methods for loading a biological sample into the analysis disc through the dispenser, and sealing the disc inlet are also provided. Kits including the disc and dispenser or the disc and one-use dispenser tips are also provided.
