摘要： Methods and apparatus of the present invention provide for orthopaedic total replacement of the hip while substantially preserving muscles and soft tissues around the hip joint resulting in reduced healing time and decreased risk of dislocation following the procedure. In an exemplary embodiment, the acetabulum is prepared and fitted with a prosthetic acetabular cup 702 and a prosthetic femoral head 1102 is fitted into the prosthetic acetabular cup 702. An intramedullary rod 1502 is inserted longitudinally into the femur. A prosthetic femoral neck 3102 is then inserted from a point along the side of the patient's body and into the side of the femur and through a pre-existing lateral bore in the intramedullary rod 1502 and through the remainder of the femur to join the prosthetic femoral head 1102. The methods and apparatus include structures and techniques for fixing the prosthetic femoral neck 3102 in relation to the intramedullary rod 1502.

摘要： The invention reduces wear in total joint articulations by modifications of the shape of either component of the kinematic pair, so as to result in an annular surface contact between the two components. Fluid trapped between the two components within the inner contour of the annular contact area is pressurized under load due to elastic deformation of the components and exuded out through inter-articular gap over the surface of contact, aiding in lubrication and reducing the wear. Reduced to practice for a total hip joint with UHMWPE-metal pair, the wear rate tested in a hip joint simulator up to five million cycles was reduced by factor seven to fifteen compared to conventionally shaped components.

摘要： An orthopedic device and method of use are provided that incorporate complex, non-spherical articulating surfaces to allow a greater available range of motion compared with existing artificial shoulder joint and artificial hip joints. According to some embodiments, complex, non-spherical articulating surfaces can be incorporated on a humeral head and/or glenoid of a shoulder prosthesis. In other embodiments, complex, non-spherical articulating surfaces can be incorporated on the acetabulum and/or femoral head of a hip prosthesis. These non-spherical surfaces can be used to adjust constraint, joint thickness, soft tissue tension, moment and arc of motion, and in doing so, influence motion.

摘要： The instantly disclosed implant is designed to resurface or partially replace (two versions) the arthritic or osteonecrotic femoral head in an anatomic fashion with maximum fixation, durability and stability. It will serve a wide range of patient ages, arthritic/traumatic deformity, and bone pathologies while providing for high performance activity. The implant has absolute fixation utilizing existing, contoured femoral head bone with or without bone cement/porous texturing, an internal plate with modular head attachment, and advantageously benefit from the concurrent use of precision guided instrumentation. This implant optimizes maximal femoral head contact with or without porous contact surfaces but does not rely purely on the head for long term stability. This new concept prevents the common failure mechanisms of femoral neck fracture, loosening and malpositioning as well as makes patient bone quality less important for this high performance hip resurfacing implant.

摘要： The present invention relates to a spacer device made of polymer cement ready for use as a replacement for a permanent articular prosthesis during a two-stage revision, comprising a rod that can be fixed to the support bone, and a head that can be placed in the articular zone, said spacer device being composed of two complementary elements that comprise means for rigid assembly to each other, the first element being charged with a first active substance, and the second element being charged with a second active substance. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first and second active substances are antibiotics chosen, for example, from among gentamicin, tobramycin, vancomycin, erythromycin, fucidin, tetracycline, or other suitable antibiotics. 摘要： A hip joint prosthesis that has a strap plate and a hollow, tapered femoral neck subassembly. The femoral neck includes a flanged force plate that radiates from a head stem base and abuts the femur. Several longitudinal ridges and/or an annular recess or other surface treatment at the head stem base facilitates retention in the femur. Shaped surfaces of a femoral neck at the strap plate interlock in non-rotational engagement with a bore of the head stem base. A tapered stem projects from the force plate and supports a ball head. The strap plate includes laterally and longitudinally displaced elongated fastener holes and stress relieving recesses and/or channels. Fasteners anchor the strap plate to the femoral shaft. A shouldered bolt mounts through the femoral neck to engage the ball head base and draw the ball head base and ball head toward the strap plate and contain the prosthesis to the femur.
