摘要： A tool and a method of operation are provided for individually setting the position of a door striker plate (20) relative to the latch body which has to engage with the striker plate. The tool (22) comprises a plate (40) which locates around the striker plate, and which can be clamped by means of vacuum to the door pillar (14) at any position. The method provides that the striker plate (20) is loosely secured to the door pillar (14), the door (10) is closed so that the latch mounted on the door moves the striker plate to the correct position for that latch, the tool is operated to clamp the striker plate in that position, the door is opened and the striker plate tightened in that position before releasing the tool.

Electromechanical transducers (2, 3) are disposed within the housing (1) for detecting the displacement of the probe (11). To avoid errors caused by improper positioning of the device on the parts (70, 71), the base (13) is pivotably connected to the housing (1), and orientation sensing switches (63) are provided for sensing when the axis of the housing (1) is in a predetermined orientation in relation to the base (13).

摘要： In order to monitor continuously the state of charge of a battery, the relaxation voltage of the battery is measured directly, or predicted from measurements taken with no current or only a small current flowing through the battery. From the relaxation voltage, the notional state of charge of the battery, prior to switching on of significant loads or of a charging device, is calculated. During later operation, with the loads and/or charging device in use, the current drawn from or fed to the battery is constantly measured and integrated and the state of charge is continuously estimated from the result of the integration and the notional state measured with the battery previously at rest.

摘要： A multi-cylinder spark ignition internal combustion engine is described having two groups of cylinders (10a, 10b). One group of cylinders may be selectively disabled by cutting off its fuel supply while continuing to receive air. The exhaust system includes an NOx trap (20) to store NOx gases while the exhaust gases contain excess air. During part load operation, the engine is run with one group of cylinders disabled most of the time during which NOx gases are stored in the NOx trap (20). In order to permit the trap (20) to be regenerated or purged periodically, both group are fired at the same time for short intervals to supply a stoichiometric or reducing mixture to the exhaust system.

摘要： An intake system is described for a spark ignition internal combustion engine having ports per cylinder, which may lead to a common intake valve or two separate intake valves. One of the intake ports (12) is shaped to direct a first flow tangentially near the outer periphery of the cylinder and the other intake port (20) is shaped to direct a second, swirling, flow towards the centre of the cylinder. The second swirling flow has the same direction of rotation as that of the first flow. Injectors (28) are provided for introducing fuel into the second swirling flow thereby producing within the cylinder a charge that is radially stratified with a combustible mixture concentrated near the centre of the cylinder. The flow rates through the two intake ports may be varied independently and the relative angular momentum of the two flows at the boundary between the two flows in the cylinder determines the degree of mixing between the two flows, such mixing being operative to decrease the degree of stratification of the charge within the cylinder.

摘要： A multicylinder engine exhaust manifold system comprises a first manifold (24) having branches (22) leading from individual exhaust ports (20) of the engine to a downpipe (26), and a second manifold (34) for interconnecting the exhaust ports (20) and also having branches (32) leading to the individual exhaust ports (20) of the engine. The cross-sectional area of each branch (32) of the second manifold (34) facing the exhaust flow from the associated exhaust valve is no less than 25 % of the total port area and the branches of both manifolds (24, 34) terminate within the ports (20) in close proximity to the exhaust valves (18). In this way, a large proportion of the exhaust flow discharged from the exhaust valve of one cylinder is captured by the associated branch (32) of the second manifold (34) and distributed by the second manifold (34) to the exhaust ports (20) of adjacent cylinders where the exhaust valves (18) are closed and leave the exhaust ports (20) of the adjacent cylinders through the associated branches (22) of the first manifold (24), scouring the closed ends of the exhaust ports (20) in the process.
