    • Disclosed is an oscillator circuit (1A) for use in a local oscillator of an RF communications device (100) that communicates over an RF channel. The oscillator circuit includes an oscillator circuit portion (2) and a bias circuit portion (3) coupled to the oscillator circuit portion for setting the operating point of the oscillator transistors. The oscillator circuit further includes a switch (6) for selectively one of connecting or disconnecting the bias circuit portion from the oscillator circuit portion, and a capacitance (5) for storing an output of the bias circuit portion during a time that the switch disconnects the bias circuit portion from the oscillator circuit portion, thereby maintaining control of the operating point of the oscillator transistors of the oscillator circuit portion. When the switch is open any noise generated by the biasing circuit portion is prevented from reaching the oscillator circuit portion, thereby reducing the overall noise floor of the oscillator circuit. The capacitance may have a value that is measured in tens of picofarads, and the oscillator circuit, including the capacitance, is formed within an integrated circuit.

    • A temperature compensated crystal oscillator has a crystal oscillating unit and at least one part for temperature compensation and oscillation circuits. The temperature compensated crystal oscillator has a layered structure and a planar thin film resistor. The layered structure has an upper layer on which the crystal oscillator and the part are mounted, and at least one layer on which conduction patterns are formed. The planar thin film resistor is arranged on an upper surface of a bottom layer of the layered structure so as to adjust an output frequency of the temperature compensated crystal oscillator. Therefore, an area occupied by the resistor for adjusting the output frequency can be minimized by inserting the resistor between the layers.

    • A phase-locked loop circuit includes one loop for regulating phase of a VCO with respect to a reference source. In another loop, VCO frequency is compared to frequency of a crystal oscilator. Digital counters divide the frequency of the crystal oscillator and VCO to a common reference frequency. Once the frequency loop is locked, the counter at the output of the crystal oscillator is bypassed. The counter is bypassed by a flip-flop circuit clocked by the crystal oscillator and receiving a scaled input from the VCO. While the VCO frequency error is in the frequency range of correction capability of the Phase-locked loop, the output of the flip-flop will duplicate the output of the counter. Thus, the counter can be bypassed and shut off.

    • An oscillator assembly has a voltage controlled crystal oscillator that produces a stable reference frequency. The voltage controlled crystal oscillator is connected to an electronic frequency adjust voltage. A temperature compensation circuit is connected to the voltage controlled crystal oscillator. The temperature compensation circuit provides a temperature compensation voltage to the voltage controlled crystal oscillator. A trim effect compensation circuit is connected between the temperature compensation circuit and the electronic frequency adjust voltage. The trim effect compensation circuit adjusts the temperature compensation voltage in response to a change in the electronic frequency adjust voltage.
