Address areas are decoded and checked by an address checking means 4 which stores data having an incorrect address into a first memory means 5 and data having a correct address into a second memory means 6. Data contained in the second memory means 6 is decoded by a data decoding means 7 in order to be reproduced. Data contained in the first memory means 5 is permitted to be reproduced in case that the number of successive sectors having incorrect address exceeds by one the difference between newly read correct address and the last correct address before the succession of incorrect addresses.

摘要： A magnetic tape drive dynamically adjusts a transport rate of tape (32) in accordance with a host data rate. The host data rate is assessed in relation to a data fill level of a buffer (116). A controller (130) of the drive compares the data fill level of the buffer with a buffer normalization value and generates an adjustment value for adjusting a signal indicative of the desired linear velocity of the tape. In one embodiment, the controller also dynamically changes the buffer normalization value to reflect e.g., historical performance of the host. In another embodiment the controller adjusts the transport rate when a head (100) is within a predetermined distance of a boundary point whereat the head must change tracks.

摘要： In order to be able to write in a magnetic tape inserted in a magnetic tape recorder, a write enable ring must be inserted on the rear of the magnetic tape reel. The presence and absence of the write enable ring is checked through the use of a sensing ring which is displaced in the axial direction when the tape reel having the write enable ring is put in place. At its exterior, the sensing ring has a surface in the axial direction having high reflectivity and contains a mark having low reflectivity. The presence and absence of the write enable ring is statically checked with an opto-electronic sensing element by sensing the surface having high reflectivity and dynamically checked by sensing the mark.
