    • A vacuum pump of the rotary vane type, comprises a casing (50) having a cylindrical inner wall surface (52), a first (54; 54′) and a second (56; 56′) end wall at opposite sides of said casing defining a fluid cavity therein, fluid inlet (60) and outlet (62) ports in open communication with said fluid cavity, and a rotor (64; 64′) extending between said end walls carried by a drive shaft (70) for rotation about an axis eccentric to said casing inner wall surface, said rotor being provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending radial slots (66) about the periphery thereof. Further, there are provided a plurality of vanes (68), each being radially slidably carried within a respective of said slots.     • A rotary vane pump has an open ended pump cylinder mounting a drive motor at one end and a ported end plate and sound chamber at the other end. The cylinder contains a rotor mounted to an eccentric drive shaft and having vane grooves receiving slidable vanes contacting an inner diameter of the cylinder. The end plate has an outlet port and primary and secondary inlet ports in communication with the cylinder interior, the inlet ports being in communication with an area of net expansion. The sound chamber has an intake port and an exhaust port in communication with the respective outlet and primary and secondary inlet ports of the end plate. The sound chamber is partitioned to define a number of internal cavities through which the incoming air is routed to the secondary inlet port.

    • A light-weight vacuum pump has a multi-wiper member circular wiper member support and impeller which is eccentrically mounted within a pump housing. The multi wiper member circular support carries from about five to nine wiper members each mounted within a slot extending substantially the length of the support, with each wiper member being centrifically urged outwardly to wipingly engage an inner surface of a round or elliptical walled pump housing. Eccentric action enables the wiper members to be extended to create a large space between adjacent wiper members as an inlet is passed. As the wiper members pass by the inlet, the acentric cylindrical wall of the pump housing begins to compress the wiper members into the support, thereby reducing the space between adjacent wiper members in a compressive manner. The wiper member support further carries an added volume pocket between adjacent pairs of wiper members in order to (1) take in more air volume, and (2) create a less severe compression per inter wiper member volume compressed. This configuration can deliver high volumes of evacuated dump air and yet create significantly high vacuum at higher speeds of operation.

    • Disclosed is a gas compressor capable of preventing generation of noise due to the vibration during the rotation of the rotor. A rotor rotating in a cylinder around a rotation shaft has five radially extending vane grooves, each of which supports a vane. The respective directions of the vane grooves are determined such that the respective angular differences between at least three adjacent compression chambers are not less than 5 degrees. Thus, the angular intervals in terms of direction between the vanes supported by the vane grooves are also different from each other. As a result, the timing with which the vanes pass the outlet port is irregular, and the discharge period is thus unequal between a plurality of compression chambers, whereby the periodicity of the vibration based thereon is reduced, and the peak values of the basic vibration component are reduced.

    • A rotary vane pump, including a housing within which is rotatably mounted a rotor having a plurality of slots therein with a vane positioned for sliding movement within each of the slots. An access port is formed in the housing communicating with the rotor at a reference position in relation to the slots. The access port is sized to permit alignment of any one of the slots with the access port by rotating the rotor, maintaining the vane within the aligned one slot and at a datum within the slot, and permitting entry into the access port of an aligned slot of a stylus having a predetermined length in relation to the datum for determining the length of the vane. A determination of whether wear to the vane has met or exceeded a predetermined amount can be determined by reference to a portion of the stylus exterior to the access port.
