    • A polishing pad installation tool comprised of a base portion and at least one compressible layer in operative connection with the base portion. The compressible layer includes a plurality of apertures through an upper surface of the compressible layer. The tool further includes a plurality of parallel pins extending outwardly from the base portion through the apertures of the compressible layer. Each of the pins includes a collar portion in surrounding relation about each pin. When the compressible layer is in an uncompressed condition, the collar portions are beneath the upper surface of the compressible layer. The pins are positioned on the base portion in a pattern which corresponds to the holes in the polishing platen. The pins have diameters which are smaller than the diameters of the holes in a polishing pad. The collars have diameters larger than the diameters of the holes in the polishing pad. As the pins of the tool enter the holes of the polishing pad, the compressible layer of the tool compresses against the polishing surface of the pad to adhesively bond the polishing pad to the polishing platen. The collar portions of the pins are operative to press against the edges of the holes of the polishing pad to seal the hole edges adjacent the polishing platen.

    • A sheet-affixing device for affixing a pressure sensitive adhesive-sheet onto a wheel is provided. The sheet-affixing device comprises an absorption plate member, an alignment shaft member, and a pressing member. The absorption plate member is formed in a ring-shape. The exterior diameter of the absorption plate member is smaller than the diameter of a rim. On the bottom surface of the absorption plate member there are provided a plurality of suction perforations. The alignment shaft member is fitted into the hub so that the center of the absorption plate member and the center of the wheel are aligned. The pressing member is used for pressing a peripheral part of the pressure sensitive adhesive-sheet against the rim so that the peripheral part is affixed to the rim. Further, the pressing member is movable relative to the absorption plate member along the axial direction of the ring-shaped absorption plate member.

    • A system for sealing sheets of plastic film together, comprising an apparatus having a first jaw, a second jaw, a sealing wire and a temperature sensor device. The first jaw and the second jaw are displaceable with respect to one another to a closed position, wherein the first jaw and the second jaw are opposed to one another with the sealing wire therebetween, such that sheets of plastic film positioned between the first and the second jaw in the closed position ate sealed together by the sealing wire when heated during a sealing cycle. The temperature sensor device is positioned to measure a temperature of the sealing wire during the sealing cycle. A power supply is connected to the sealing wire to supply an electric current thereto for heating the sealing wire. A controller is connected to the power supply and to the temperature sensor device for receiving temperature signals representative of the sealing wire temperature during the sealing cycle, the controller being inputted with a desired temperature signal from an operator, the controller automatically adjusting the value of the electric current from the power supply to the sealing wire as a function of the temperature signals from the temperature sensor device and the desired temperature signal.

    • A compaction and transfer apparatus adapted to measure the length and/or weight of a waste log during compaction and transfer thereof, is provided. The apparatus comprises a compaction chamber, a closure device, a compaction ram, and a movement and/or weight detector. The compaction chamber is adapted to receive waste material. The compaction chamber has a discharge opening. The closure device is selectively movable into and out of the discharge opening to control the size of the discharge opening. The compaction ram is movable through the chamber to press the waste material against the closure device and thereby provide compaction of the waste material. The movement detector preferably is mounted on the closure device. The movement detector is adapted to detect movement of the waste material through the discharge opening, which movement corresponds to the length of the waste log extending out of the discharge opening. The weight detector is adapted to detect a total weight of the waste material in the compaction chamber and any portion of the waste log which extends out through the discharge opening. Preferably, the weight and/or length is used in controlling the compaction and transferring operation so that capabilities of a trailer are not exceed. Also provided are methods of measuring the length and/or weight of a waste log during a compaction and transfer operation.

    • The invention relates to a plastic film heat seal apparatus which comprises a heat seal bar covered with at least one low adhesive sheet. The heat seal bar is pressed against superposed layers of plastic film so that the layers of plastic film can be heat sealed with each other by the heat seal bar to have a heat sealed portion whenever the layers of plastic film are intermittently fed in a direction and temporarily stopped. The low adhesive sheet is interposed between the heat seal bar and the layers of plastic film for protection of the layers of plastic film when the heat seal bar is pressed against the layers of plastic film. The heat seal bar is then retreated and spaced from the layers of plastic film to permit the layers of plastic film to be fed again after being heat sealed. The heat sealed portion includes upstream and downstream edges in the plastic film feeding direction. The apparatus further comprises loosening means by which the low adhesive sheet is loosened at a position upstream of the heat seal bar in the plastic film feeding direction after the heat seal bar is pressed against the layers of plastic film. The apparatus further comprises holding means by which the low adhesive sheet is held at a position downstream of the heat seal bar in the plastic film feeding direction. The low adhesive sheet is therefore pulled by and peeled off the layers of plastic film gradually and progressively in a direction to the upstream edge from the downstream edge of the heat sealed portion when the layers of plastic film are fed again after being heat sealed.
