    • An injection device and method of forming an injection device. The injection device includes a unitary molded body including a cylindrical wall partially defining a syringe chamber a nose offset from the cylindrical wall to define the forward end of a needle housing positioned on one side of the cylindrical wall. The adjoining portions of the nose and the cylindrical wall having a passage formed therethrough for the flow of fluid from the chamber to the nose. The passage is concealed behind the skirt of the nose. A plunger is slidably disposed in the chamber. A sheath is spaced from the nose and cylindrical wall to define a needle housing. A needle carriage is slidably disposed in the needle housing, and is movable to a forward position with the needle extending through the aperture in the front end of the nose.

    • An intro-aortic balloon catheter system and method for determining cardiac output with the system including a distal end for insertion into an aorta and a proximal end opposed to the distal end, a balloon portion in proximity to the distal end which repeatedly expands and contracts so as to assist the pumping action of the heart, a catheter tube connected to the balloon portion with the catheter tube having a lumen introducing a pressurized gas into the balloon portion and leading the pressurized gas out from the balloon portion and a temperature sensor attached to the catheter tube and being electrically coupled to a connector at the proximal end of the catheter tube. The method includes inserting the temperature sensor into a lumen of the intra aortic balloon catheter system, advancing the temperature sensor until it projects freely into the aorta, injecting an injectate of a temperature different to that of the temperature of the patient's blood into the central vein of the patient, measuring the blood temperature profile versus time by means of the temperature sensor and calculating cardiac output and optionally the derived variables from the measured temperature profile.

    • A syringe system includes a first syringe having a barrel with a tubular tip formed at the end thereof. The tubular tip has an exterior surface with a pair of spaced apart first threads outwardly projecting therefrom so as to at least partially encircle the tubular tip. A second syringe has a barrel with a collar formed at the end thereof. The collar has an interior surface with engagement threads projecting therefrom. The collar is configured to receive the tip of the first syringe such that the first threads can selectively threadedly couple with the engagement threads. A pair of second threads project from the exterior surface of the tubular tip so as to at least partial encircle the tubular tip, the second threads being longitudinally spaced apart from the first threads. The second threads can be rotated, shifted, or otherwise shaped into a variety of different configurations so as to aggressively engage the engagement threads in frictional bias when the first syringe is coupled to the second syringe. In an alternative embodiment, the second threads can be replaced by a ridge which is contigured to frictionally engage with the engagcment threads.

    • An improved hypodermic needle that greatly reduces the pain associated with injection through the skin that includes a translucent hub for quick observation of flashback, a regular-wall needle with multiple strategically-placed lateral perforations ending with a blade-like honed edge orifice which the remainder of the injection fluid escapes. The increase in localized surface area through which fluid leaves the needle decreases the mechanical distortion of the surrounding tissue thereby lessening pain receptor stimulation and reducing the perception of pain during the injection process.

    • A needle holding device having an elongated hollow body with first and second ends, the first end being substantially open for receiving a needle.
