    • Disclosed is an orthodontic appliance for straightening misaligned teeth. The orthodontic appliance is made of a shape memory polymer, and is formed in a cap-shaped tray capable of covering the maxillary or mandibular teeth. An original shape of the tray-type orthodontic appliance made of the shape memory polymer is identical to that of perfectly aligned teeth obtained after orthodontic treatment, and a temporarily formed shape of the tray-type orthodontic appliance is identical to that of the teeth alignment of a patient before orthodontic treatment. The tray-type orthodontic appliance is restored to the original shape memorized at a temperature above a specified glass transition temperature. The orthodontic appliance can be easily manufactured to perform orthodontic treatment, also providing appealing esthetics, in which the orthodontic appliance can be colored to be identical to a tooth with inexpensive manufacturing cost.

    • The invention provides an automatic ligation tool which comfortably and quickly fastens ligature wires to brackets. There is provided an automatic ligation tool for orthodontists for fastening ligature wires to a bracket, that includes a tube with a first end portion having a side provided with first and second openings, a second end portion having an outer surface and an external screw thread on the outer surface, and an inner surface provided with a protuberance; a body including an inner surface provided with an internal screw thread associated with the external thread of the tube, guide grooves formed along the longitudinal direction on the inner surface of the body and a circumscribed groove formed between the internal screw thread and the guide grooves on the inner surface of the body; a rotation shaft inserted into the tube and the body, the shaft having first and second end parts, the first end part formed as a hook which extends out of the first opening, the first end part having an end extending into the second opening, the shaft having guide pins fitting in and sliding along the guide grooves; an elastic device positioned between the protuberance and the guide pins for providing a return force for the shaft; and a driving mechanism connected with the second and part of the shaft for rotating the shaft to fasten the ligature wire gripped by the hook to the bracket.

    • A self ligating orthodontic bracket system includes a bracket, a slidable ligating member and at least one wedge locking ramp. The bracket includes an archwire slot defined therein, which is configured to receive an archwire therein. The ligating member slides along a slide path defined on the bracket and which extends transverse relative to the archwire slot. The wedge locking ramp is disposed on the slide path, wherein the wedge locking ramp is configured to deflect the ligating member vertically upward and away from an upper surface of the slide path, and over the wedge locking ramp when the ligating member travels along the slide path from an unlocked position to a locked position. The archwire is securely retained in the archwire slot when the ligating member is in the locked position.

    • The orthodontic bracket system includes a bracket having a base for attachment to a tooth surface, a stem above the base, tie wings extending from the stem for securing ligatures, and an archwire slot for receiving an archwire defined by the stem and tie wings. Distal and mesial side surfaces of the bracket base are perpendicular to the archwire slot to allow a rotational device to apply rotational force to a tooth perpendicular to the archwire with direct vector-line guidance. Occlusal and gingival edges of the bracket base between the tie wings are scooped-out or recessed to provide more space to receive a tool under an elastic ligature, and select corners of the tie wings are beveled enlarging space to facilitate entry of instruments for removing wire ligatures, to facilitate instrument access for removal and replacement of ligatures, while streamlining tooth rotation to make arch correction more efficient.

In another embodiment the ligature has locking teeth at both ends which engage one another and a locking tube to prevent disengagement of the ligature. In another embodiment the locking member is initially open and is closable to secure the ligature therein, thereby preventing disengagement of the ligature from an orthodontic bracket and an orthodontic archwire following installation.
