    • An orthodontic bracket for coupling an archwire with a tooth comprises a bracket body configured to be mounted to the tooth and a clip. A clip slot extends through the bracket body transversely to the archwire slot. Upon deflection of the clip, it contacts the bracket body at locations that were not in contact before the deflection. The clip may also have various forms and include various structures that cooperate with the body when the clip is deflected to restrict or stop the deflection. The orthodontic bracket may comprise a securing mechanism that is configured to secure the resilient ligating clip in the closed position. A method of manufacturing a shaped unsintered body for use in manufacturing an orthodontic bracket is provided. A portion of the sinterable particles may be removed using a stream of energy to yield a plurality of posts which are then deformed.

    • The bracket comprises flange means adapted to be secured to a tooth of a patient, a bearing member having a neck portion connected to said flange means and a through hole on an axis which is transversely spaced from said flange means, and a rotary catch member mounted in said through hole for rotation on said axis and defining with said neck portion and said flange means a channel which is disposed on one side of said bearing member and open opposite to said neck portion and adapted to receive a wire so that the latter is engageable with said flange means. The rotary catch member is formed with actuating means which are peripherally spaced from said channel and engageable by an implement for rotating the rotary catch member. The rotary catch member is rotatable on said axis to a retaining position and in said retaining position is adapted to retain a wire in said channel. A U-shaped member is detachably fitted over said neck portion and has a crosspiece extending in said channel. The channel is adapted to receive a square-section wire in engagement with said U-shaped member. The rotary catch member is adapted in said retaining position to retain said square-section wire in said channel and in engagement with said U-shaped member.

    • An orthodontic appliance adapted to be secured to a tooth by any suitable means, such as a tooth band or by direct bonding. The appliance consists of a bracket and a lock pin which holds an arch wire to the bracket in any of a plurality of attitudes to accommodate successive phases in orthodontic treatment. The offset head of the lock pin engages the gingival edge of the bracket to define the limits of the arch-wire-receiving slot on a gingival-occlusal axis. A notch in the edge inhibits the pin from moving laterally or rotating in the bracket. The bracket is formed by embossing a sheet of material to form a pin-receiving channel. Tabs are bent inwardly from the channel side walls to provide fulcrum edge means approximating a knife edge, on which the arch wire bears as it passes through the bracket.

THE APPLIANCE INCLUDES A SYMMETRICALLY CONSTRUCTED GUIDANCE PIN HAVING AN OVAL HEAD AND AN ELONGATED TAIL EXTENDING PERPENDICULARLY WITH RESPECT TO THE MAJOR AXIS OF THE OVAL HEAD. THIS PIN IS RECEIVED IN A BRACKET, WITH THE TAIL EXTENDING BETWEEN SIDE WALLS OF THE BRACKET. THE SIDE WALLS EXTEND SUBSTANTIALLY VERTICALLY AND TERMINATE IN UPPER SURFACES RESPECTIVELY FORMED WITH RECESSES EXTENDING AROUND THE MAJOR AXIS OF THE OVAL HEAD AN RECEIVING THE LATTER TO FORM A SEAT THEREFOR.
