    • The sealing device is for drum filters or filter presses to form a seal between the rotary drum end faces and the end faces of the trough in which the rotary drums are situated. A sealing element (3) is disposed in a groove (1) on the rotary drum end face, in which the sealing element (3) is pressed into contact against the opposite part by a hose element (2), preferably in form of two flexible hoses (2a, 2b), which can be pressurized internally. The hoses (2a, 2b) are disposed one on top of the other in the groove (1) beneath the sealing element (3). The two open ends of the hose element (2) are provided with sleeves (7) which enclose the ends. The sleeves (7) are held in place in the groove (1) with a holder element (10). Spaces (19a, 19b) are formed on both sides of the middle piece (12) of the holder element. One space (19a) is provided with an inlet (17) for pressurizing medium and the other space (19b) is provided with an outlet (18) for the pressurizing medium. The sealing device also has a sleeve (7) and a holder element (10).

    • A sealing arrangement is provided between a rotary drum kiln and the stationary end thereof arranged in a material flow relation to each other, having enhanced effectiveness and requiring less maintenance. Pressurized gas, such as air, is fed to the connecting area of the drum and stationary end so that the angle &agr; between the feeding direction of the gas and a plane substantially perpendicular to the center axis of the rotary drum is 90° or less (preferably between about 10-30°). The air flow is directed to the seal in such a way that it prevents leaking of process gas and solid matter dust from the connecting point of the rotary drum and the feed chamber, and so that as little air as possible escapes to the surroundings. Due to the gas flow, the stationary surface and the moving surface substantially do not rub together.

    • An apparatus for sealing a rotary tube drum of a furnace to another furnace component. Two concentric resilient metal ring segments are provided on a disk to comprise the sealing elements of the present invention. A plurality of springs arranged as a ring apply pressure to the disk and ring segments to ensure a consistent and self-adjusting seal between the joined components. Links located circumferentially about the disk limit lateral movement, yet allow axial movement, of the seal. It is thereby possible, according to the present invention, to provide a resilient seal between a rotary tube and another component of a furnace that yields a self-adjusting gas-impermeable seal between the mating components.

    • A rotary drum mixer mixes product matter in a particulate form. A scoop section for the mixer has scoop blades which are radially enclosed by a peripheral wall which rotates with the drum. A stationary hood includes an outer face portion which covers the end wall of the scoop section and a peripheral portion which covers the peripheral wall of the scoop section, but neither the outer face portion nor the peripheral portion of the stationary hood contact product matter. The scoop blades are relatively flat and are angled into the direction of rotation. A back section is also included for the scoop blades. A seal assembly is positioned toward the inner diameter of the scoop blades and biases radially outward. The seal assembly may alternatively be positioned at the outer diameter of the scoop section, and/or the seal member may alternatively be biased radially outward. An inflatable bladder is used to radially bias the seal member against a hoop. Either the hoop may rotate with the scoop section and the seal member maintained stationary, or the seal member may rotate with the scoop section and the hoop maintained stationary.
