    • An ink jet printer having an imaging drum with a supply of paper within the drum. The paper is transported by rollers mounted on the imaging drum that are controlled by the transverse position of a cutter mechanism that cuts off the imaged paper. The paper passes from the supply spool in the imaging drum through a longitudinal slot in the drum to the outside, around the exterior of the drum, where it is held in place during the imaging process, and then ejected from the drum to the desired length and cut off. While the imaged sheet is being ejected from the drum, the next length of paper is drawn from the drum and around the outside of the drum in position for the next imaging operation. The length of paper that remains projecting from the drum after the imaged paper has been cut off is then withdrawn into the interior of the drum through the longitudinal opening in the drum surface until only a short stub, which will not interfere with the subsequent imaging operation, remains protruding from the drum. After each imaging operation, the cutter mechanism provides mechanical control of the paper handling drive assembly for the ejection, withdrawal and tensioning of the paper.

    • An apparatus for accurately guiding a web of light-sensitive recording media into a cylindrical support shoe of a printer includes a metering roller at the inlet side of a stationary support shoe around which a received media web is wrapped. At least one media guide belt is mounted about a set of pulleys to guide media toward a nip between a pressure roller and the metering roller through which the media is driven into the stationary support shoe. The metering roller is mounted to rotate about a predetermined axis, and the pressure roller has one end held in a frame and is spring loaded into the frame and the metering roller. The other end of the pressure roller is also spring loaded into the metering roller and into an adjustment plate which is pivotal about the axis of the metering roller, whereby the pressure roller can be steered so that the axis of the metering roller and the axis of rotation of the pressure roller are made parallel, and so that the nip between the metering roller and the pressure roller can be adjusted to lie in a plane defined by the axis of the metering roller and the axis of rotation of the pressure roller to cause media to run uniformly and predictably when metering into and out of the cylindrical support shoe.

    • The invention is directed to a device for clamping sheet-shaped film material onto the recording drum of a reproduction device and is directed to the operation of this device. The recording drum comprises axially proceeding suction-hole rows for the vacuum-fixing of the recording material. Suction channels, each of which connects the suction holes of a suction hole row to one another, proceed in the wall of the recording drum. A vacuum distributor controllable by the rotational movement of the recording drum is arranged in the recording drum, this controllable vacuum distributor selectively bringing the individual suction channels, the corresponding suction hole rows into communication with a stationary vacuum pump. The vacuum distributor is controllable such that that suction hole row on which the starting region of the recording material lies is first charged with vacuum during the clamping event. As a result thereof, a high initial vacuum is achieved, as a result whereof the recording material does not slip. Further suction hole rows are then successively cut-in in accordance with the increasing wrap of the rotating recording drum by the recording material and are charged with vacuum. The cut-in of further suction hole rows is ended in accordance with the respective circumferential length of the recording material at that suction hole row on which the end region of the recording material lies. In particular, large-format recording material can be clamped onto the recording drum without creating folds and warping, and can be reliably fixed thereat with the device.

    • An ink jet printer with a continuous supply of sheet material from a spool contained within an imaging drum. The sheet material is withdrawn from the interior of the drum by a pair of rollers carried by the drum and removably connected to an external drive system. The sheet material travels around the drum and is held by the rollers in that position. The external drive system is then disconnected allowing the drum to rotate while a printing head scans the surface of the sheet material to produce the desired image. After the imaging process, the drum is stopped in a predetermined position and the rollers connected to the external drive. The rollers are then driven to eject the imaged sheet material while a fresh supply is withdrawn from the interior of the drum and wrapped around its outer surface. The ejected sheet material is sheared by a transverse cutter and the sheared end of the sheet material is withdrawn by the rollers to a length short enough that it does not interfere with the subsequent imaging step. Means are provided for tensioning the sheet material around the drum prior to the next imaging process. The operation of the drive mechanism in three modes, a rest mode while the drum rotates, a paper ejecting mode, and a paper tensioning mode, is controlled by the lateral position of the cutter mechanism.
