    • Each time the rotary bit of a milling machine is sharpned, the diameter of the bit is reduced and the spindle carrying the bit must be shifted with respect to the workpiece. Where the path of the spindle is defined by a record or ''''program'''' of binary numbers on a punched tape or on a magnetic drum or disc, a different program must be composed for each bit size. This invention obviates all of the many programs and most of the computer memory storage. A program for the maximum and minimum cutter bit diamters, only, are composed and stored and the readout of these two values are combined in a fixed ratio n and applied to the controls of the machine tool.

    • The motion of a machine tool table is controlled by comparing, for each axis, present location of the machine tool which is represented by the count in a feedback counter, with a desired location, which is represented by the count in a command counter. A transducer produces a pulse train wherein each pulse is representative of increments of machine tool table motion. A reference source of oscillation feeds pulses to drive the command counter. These pulses are modulated by the pulses from the feedback transducer and then are applied to drive the feedback counter. The difference in time at which both counters attain predetermined counts is sensed and is used to generate signals which control the application of drive signals to the motors which drive the machine tool tables.

    • A control apparatus for the embroidery sewing machine which comprises at least two D.C. servomotors for providing controlled power output for driving an embroidery frame, one pair of sensors responsive to rotation of the servomotors for providing detect signals in the form of feedback signals, a presettable counter located at pre-stage to a servomotor drive output amplifier circuit and having an input of the feedback signals in the form of up/down signals, the presettable counter containing a preset value for one stitch operation and counting up or down toward making the preset value zero according to the feedback signal resulting in a residual value if the servomotors are incompletely actuated, and correcting means for superposing the residual value in the counter with a value to be set therein for the next succeeding stitch operation, whereby integral accumulation of errors due to incomplete actuation of each servomotor for each stitch operation can be effectively eliminated. The control apparatus further includes indicator elements which tell the appropriate operation in progress and the completion thereof, and control keys which permit a repetitive operation including a return and an advance, a stop, etc. as required.

    • This invention relates to a vector measurement system for controlling positional movement of a machine tool spindle along two mutually perpendicular axes respectively perpendicular to the axis of spindle rotation. The spindle is journaled in a spindlehead vertically movable on a column that is horizontally movable on a supporting base. Separate power translators are respectively connected to effect horizontal column movement and vertical spindlehead movement in accordance with separate feedback error control signals. A pair of separate lineal measuring instruments which are pivotally secured at one end to the spindle, extend in angularly diverging directions and are pivotally secured at their opposite outer ends to spaced apart portions of the support base. A positional control system responsive to vector measurements from both diagonally disposed, pivotally interconnected lineal measuring transducers provides separate feedback error control signals for indicating the spindle position along its respective horizontal and vertical axes. Predetermined digital input command signals actuate the separate power translators for moving the tool spindle horizontally and vertically to a position determined by positional error feedback signals from the vector measurement control system. In a similar manner, error feedback signals from the vector measurement control system operate to control bodily movement of the tool spindle along only one axis of movement. During each single axis movement, rectilinear positional measurement signals from both pivotally interconnected vector measuring transducers are connected to provide orthogonal positional error control signals.
