    • A first flywheel and a second flywheel in a flywheel assembly are configured to be connected to each other such that they rotate together with generally no relative rotation therebetween in a predetermined low RPM region. The flywheel assembly (1) includes the first flywheel (2), the second flywheel (3), a damper mechanism (5) and a lever mechanism (7). The second flywheel (3) is disposed rotatable relative to the first flywheel (2). The damper mechanism (5) elastically connects the first flywheel (2) and the second flywheel (3) to allow for limited relative rotary displacement therebetween. The lever mechanism (7) is mounted on the first flywheel (2) and pivots about a pivot bolt connected to the first flywheel (2). The lever mechanism (7) pivots between an engaged state and a disengaged state. In the engaged state, the lever mechanism (7) connects the first flywheel (2) and the second flywheel (3) such that the two flywheels may not undergo relative rotary displacement with respect to each other.

    • The action of a primary damping device between two coaxial parts of a flywheel which is driven by the crankshaft of the engine in a motor vehicle and transmits torque to the input shaft of the change-speed transmission is influenced by a blocking device, by a friction generating device or by an auxiliary damping device in such a way that the resistance which the primary damping device offers to rotation of the two parts relative to each other decreases with increasing RPM of the engine. The blocking device, the friction generating device and the auxiliary damping device can be operated by centrifugal force in such a way that the two parts of the flywheel are positively or frictionally coupled to each other when the RPM of the engine is at or below the idling RPM.

    • A dual mass flywheel includes a first flywheel part arranged for rotation on an axis, a second flywheel part arranged for rotation on the axis, and a torsional damper that is connected to the first flywheel part and the second flywheel part. A linkage is connected to the first flywheel part and includes a first joint that is movable from a first position, in which a first joint of the linkage is in an over-center condition, to a second position. An engaging member is connected to the linkage such that the engaging member engages the second flywheel part when the linkage is in the first position and disengages from the second flywheel part when the linkage is in the second position.
