    • The torsion angle between a first rotation member and a second rotation member can be increased to lower the rigidity of a resilient member, thereby enhancing the attenuation property of torsional vibration. The torsional vibration damping apparatus 1 comprises a pair of disc plates 4, 5 having the rotation torque from an internal combustion engine transmitted thereto, input gears 9, 10 rotatably supported on the disc plates 4, 5, an output gear 13 provided to be relatively rotatable with respect to the disc plates 4, 5 and held in mesh with the input gears 9, 10, a boss member 7 splined to an input shaft 8 of a power transmission train, and a coil spring 14 having one end portion fastened to the input gear 9 and the other end portion fastened to the input gear 10. The input gear 9 has a crank member 15 radially spaced apart from a gear pin 11 of the input gear 9 to support one end portion of the coil spring 14, while the input gear 10 has a crank member 16 radially spaced apart from a gear pin 12 of the input gear 10 to support the other end portion of the coil spring 14.

    • A parallel, torque additive torsional compensating device for an internal combustion engine is provided. The torsional compensating device comprises a first gear, a first joint assembly, an intermediate shaft, a second joint assembly, a torsional element, and a second gear. The first gear and the second gear are in respective driving engagement with a first engagement portion and a second engagement portion of an output of the engine. The intermediate shaft is in driving engagement with the first joint assembly and the second joint assembly. The torsional element is in driving engagement with the second joint assembly and the second gear. An angular deviation of at least one of the first joint assembly and the second joint assembly causes a cyclical acceleration of the torsional element. The cyclical acceleration applies a torque to the output of the internal combustion engine through the second gear and the second engagement portion.

    • A vibration damper for a torque converter clutch has elastomeric bands disposed to transmit torque between the clutch input member and the clutch output member while simultaneously permitting relative angular movement between the members to reduce the torsional vibration imposed on the input member. The elastomeric bands are connected to a clutch pressure plate and a gear member which is rotatably mounted on the pressure plate and meshes with a gear drivingly formed on the output member. The input member and output member undergo angular excursions relative to each other during torque transmission such that the gear member rotatably mounted on the pressure plate rotates due to its meshing engagement to increase the stress in the elastomeric band to a value commensurate with the torque transmitting level of the clutch. The torque input to the clutch is thus transmitted through the elastomeric band and the meshing gears to the clutch output member.
