    • In an aspect, a decoupler is provided, comprising a hub defining an axis, a pulley, a one way clutch and an isolation spring that act in series, a damping member that frictionally engages a friction surface the pulley or the hub, and a biasing member that urges the damping member into the friction surface. The biasing member has a mounting portion having an axially extending first mounting surface that is fixedly engaged with a second axially extending mounting surface on the other of the pulley and hub and an engagement portion resiliently connected to the mounting portion by a transition portion having at least one bend that urges the engagement portion into engagement with the damping member with a selected force. The at least one bend resiliently permits axial movement of the damping member engagement portion independent of the mounting portion.

    • A recoil starter capable of preventing vibration of a damper spring due to vibrations of an engine caused during running of the engine, to thereby restrain abrasion of a rope reel, a cam and the like which are made of a plastic material, resulting in the durability of the recoil starter being enhanced. The recoil starter includes a drive section comprised of a rope reel which is rotated by pulling a recoil rope and a cam for transmitting the rotational force of the reel to a crankshaft of the engine through a one-way rotative transmission mechanism. A damper spring in the shape of a torsion coil spring is held in annular recesses formed in joint surfaces of the rope reel and cam to face each other while the damper spring is resiliently distorted, so that the rope reel and the cam are rotatingly coupled with each other through the damper spring.

    • An intake manifold (18) for an engine (10) includes a Roots-type supercharger (26) having a torsion damping mechanism (54) for reducing audible gear tooth rattle of timing gears (72,74) which prevent contact of meshed lobes (28c,29a) of the supercharger rotors (28,29). The damping mechanism includes a hard outer shell or band (102) for maintaining the shape of an annular member (100) formed of relatively soft elastomeric material which is fixed for rotation with the gear (74). The member (100) includes three arcuate slots (100c) each defining forward and reverse direction stops (100d,100e) for limiting movement of pins (96) slidably disposed at one end in the slots and fixed at the other end to the input shaft. A torsion spring (98) of low rate resiliently connects the pins to the annular member for reducing the audible gear tooth rattle. A set of three cantilever springs, molded integrally with the annular member, mitigate audible impacts of the reverse stops (100e) by the pins (96).
