    • It is an object of this invention to provide an automatic shoe clearance adjustment device for a drum brake mechanism designed to improve its durability by eliminating a gap, which is caused due to the manufacturing tolerances between the operating end surface of a brake shoe and the extended portion of an adjustment lever. To that end, a long hole (81) is formed to extend horizontally in the actuating direction of a service brake actuator (50); and the adjustment lever (80) is pivotally supported via a pin (14) with a capacity of making a rotation relative to the brake shoe (20) and a capacity of making a relative slide in approximately the same direction in which the service brake actuator (50) operates.

    • A screw-released roller brake including an input drive assembly, an output drive assembly, a plurality of locking sprags, a mechanical tripper nut for unlocking the sprags, and a casing therefor. The sprags consist of three dimensional (3-D) sprag members having pairs of contact surface regions which engage respective pairs of contact surface regions included in angular grooves or slots formed in the casing and the output drive assembly. The sprags operate to lock the output drive assembly to the casing to prevent rotation thereof in an idle mode of operation. In a drive mode of operation, the tripper is either self actuated or motor driven and is translated linearly up and down against a spline and at the limit of its travel rotates the sprags which unlock while coupling the input drive assembly to the output drive assembly so as to impart a turning motion thereto in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

    • A drum brake device having a single brake shoe mounted to be movable on top of the back plate.     • This invention relates to a vehicle drum brake assembly adapted to selectively frictionally engage a brake drum. The drum brake assembly includes a backing plate supported relative to a vehicle component and having at least three openings formed therethrough, at least one brake shoe supported on the backing plate for selective movement into frictional engagement with the brake drum, and a brake mechanism for selectively moving the brake shoe into frictional engagement with the brake drum. The drum brake assembly includes a pair of fasteners extending through two of the three openings provided in the backing plate to secure the backing plate to a fixed, non-rotatable component of the vehicle. The drum brake assembly further includes a member having a first portion operatively connected to the brake shoe and a second portion extending through the third of the three openings provided in the backing plate and secured to the fixed, non-rotatable component of the vehicle, wherein during application of the drum brake assembly the member is operative to transfer braking torque from the brake shoe to the non-rotatable component of the vehicle.

    • A normally engaged (dead man's) brake for a manually operable pallet truck. A spring-biased, levered cam is housed within a wheel subassembly frame. Two wheels that are axle-mounted to the frame contain integral brake drums and are mounted so as to circumferentially superimpose the drums over brake shoes which are pivotally mounted to the frame. Under normal, non-operational conditions, the levered cam forces the brake shoes into registry and contact with the drums, thereby conditioning a brake-engaged mode. A manual control lever is cable-connected to the frame in a fashion to enable overcoming the spring biasing of the levered cams, thereby releasing the brake. The moment manual force is released, the levered cams return to the normal, brake-engaged mode, thus effecting the invention's purpose.
