    • A piston cooling system for a pivoted piston (1) for an internal combustion engine, said piston (1) having a piston body (2), a pivot shaft (3) by which the piston body (2) may be pivoted about a pivot axis (4) within a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, a first arcuate sealing surface spaced from the pivot axis and transcribing a circumferential path about the pivot axis, and a second arcuate sealing surface radially offset from the first arcuate sealing surface and connected to the first arcuate sealing surface by a floor (5) of the piston body (2), a portion of said floor (5) including a combustion chamber piston crown (6), characterised in that the cooling system includes a coolant path (10) formed in the piston, said coolant path having an entry point at a first end (11) of the pivot shaft (3) and an exit point at a second end (12) of the pivot shaft (3), wherein said coolant path (10) extends from the entry point, through a first portion (13) of the pivot shaft (3), into said piston body (2), beneath the piston floor (5), on through one or more passageways (16) adjacent the piston crown (6), back to a second portion of the pivot shaft (3), and out through the exit point, each said passageway (15/16/17) having a substantially constant cross section along its length.

    • The stratified two cycle engine comprises: a cylinder having an upper end and a lower end, a head at the upper end and fuel and air intake ports at the lower end; at least one spark plug mounted in the head; a sleeve in the cylinder having an upper end and a lower end and the cylinder having exhaust ports at the upper end which are covered and uncovered by the upper end of the sleeve; a piston in the sleeve and connected to a crank shaft; a first exhaust manifold at one side of the cylinder at the upper end thereof adjacent one exhaust port in the cylinder and having first exhaust gas throttle valve means associated therewith; at least a first and a second fuel and air intake manifolds at one side of the cylinder and at the other side of the cylinder in communication with first and second fuel and air intake ports in the cylinder; throttle valve means in each intake manifold; a reed cage assembly in each intake manifold adjacent the associated intake port for injecting a fuel and air mixture into the cylinder; control means for controlling the injection of fuel and air mixture into the cylinder so that fuel and air mixture is injected into the cylinder through only one intake port when the engine is operating from zero to one half full load; and an operating connection between the crank shaft and the sleeve for causing reciprocation of the sleeve relative to movement of the piston to open and close the exhaust ports and the air and fuel intake ports in the cylinder.

    • A rotary cylinder machine, designed as a two-cycle internal combustion engine or as a compressor, includes in a housing (1) a cylinder rotor (5) that rotates about a first axis of rotation (7) and has three pairs of cylinders (13), the cylinders of each pair being coaxial and on opposite sides of the first axis of rotation and the pairs being spaced apart circumferentially by 120.degree.. The radially outer ends of the cylinders are closed by cylinder covers (33). Three pairs of pistons (15), rigidly connected together by piston rods (17), are carried on a crankshaft (21) that is rotatable about a second axis of rotation (23) that is parallel to and eccentric to the first axis of rotation (7). The piston rods (17) are seated on three eccentric disks (25), likewise displaced 120.degree. with respect to one another, on the crankshaft (21). Gas exchange takes place through piston-controlled ports (51, 53) of the cylinders (13). In the gas-exchange path of the ports (51, 53) rotary slide valve control arrangements (57), which optionally control gas exchange together with the piston-controlled ports (51, 53), are provided on at least the exhaust side. Gas intake may take place through rotary slide valve controls, or through an intake channel terminating in a crankshaft chamber of the cylinder rotor (5) and connected with the intake ports by overflow channels. In an internal combustion engine, a blower driven by a variable-speed motor may be provided for control of the degree of filling of the combustion chambers (37).
