    • A process for automatically removing packages in a winding station of a yarn winding machine, having elements (1) for holding and disengaging a full package (2), a winding guide (3) guiding the yarn to be wound during winding, a bar (7) for disengagement from the winding guide (3), a package drive (4), heads (5) for gripping and holding the spool (6) and a device (8) for supplying the station with spools (6). The process includes providing, during each removal cycle, a relaxation of the tension of the supply yarn, then restarting a new winding cycle after completing the removal cycle. The invention is more particularly applicable to the field of the textile industry, in particular machines for winding yarns.

    • An apparatus and a method for winding a web of tapes or yarns to a plurality of packages, wherein a plurality of winding positions are arranged side by side on a long side of the apparatus, with at least one package being wound in each winding position. To distribute the tapes or yarns of the web, a yarn guide bar and a plurality of yarn guides are provided, the yarn guides being associated with respective ones of the winding positions. In this process, the web of tapes or yarns is guided above the winding positions in a distribution plane that extends transverse to the long side of the apparatus. The yarn guide bar is movable so as to permit unimpeded access to the winding positions in a doffing plane which is parallel to the long side of the apparatus, to facilitate doffing of the full packages with the aid of an auxiliary device which can be guided in the doffing plane.

    • An automatic cord winder for steel cord braiding machines is disclosed. The winder automatically and continuously drives a spool assembly during a steel cord winding operation. In the spool assembly, a plurality of spools are assembled together into a longitudinal single assembly with a side plate siding each end of the assembly. A spool inlet channel and a spool outlet opening are formed on a winder body. A bobbin lift, movably set in the winder body, is selectively raised upwardly along with the spool assembly from an interior position of the body by a lead screw, thus discharging the spool assembly from the body to a designated position above the top wall of the body through the spool outlet opening. Head and tail stocks, individually having a movable cylinder, are positioned on the top wall of the winder body at positions around the spool outlet opening and selectively rotate the spool assembly while holding the assembly. A cord cutter melts the steel cord to cut the cord using an electrode bar when the cord is completely wound around the spools of the spool assembly.

    • The winding heads of a bobbin-winding machine are provided with automatic bobbin exchange capability through the use of an indexable magazine which carries multiple interchangeable spindle units. The spindle units engage bobbins and, in turn, are adapted to be engaged by a rotary drive mounted on a transfer arm. The transfer arm moves individual spindle/bobbin combinations between the magazine and the bobbin-winding position after engagement with the rotary drive. Disengagement of a spindle/bobbin combination after winding and return to the magazine permits automatic exchange with a spindle carrying an empty bobbin.

    • A doffing/donning apparatus is used in combination with a row of winders each of which winds filamentary material upon a tube carried by a rotary spindle of the winder to form a package. The apparatus comprises a carrier mounted for movement generally parallel to and above the row of winders. A column is mounted on said carrier for horizontal movement. A package exchange arm is mounted on said column for up-and-down movement and is alignable with the winder spindle so that the package can be transferred to the package exchange arm. A tube exchange arm is mounted on the column for up-and-down movement and is alignable with the spindle so that a tube on the tube exchange arm can be transferred to the spindle. A shuttle is spaced horizontally from and vertically above the row of winders, and includes a package transfer arm and a tube transfer arm. The package exchange and tube exchange arms are moved along the column to the level of the shuttle. The column is moved horizontally toward the shuttle so that the package can be transferred from the package exchange arm to the package transfer arm and a tube can be transferred from the tube transfer arm to the tube exchange arm. The shuttle is transferred to a remote station where the package is removed from the package transfer arm and a tube is inserted on the tube transfer arm.

    • A method of and apparatus for automatically changing two tubes, each placed upon a respective mandrel arranged on an arm member movable substantially parallel to its axis and rotatable such that said tubes alternatingly contact a friction drive drum for taking up an endless thread delivered at high speed in a winding device. The full package wound upon one of the tubes, during such time as the desired package size is reached, is rolled along the friction drive drum in the sense of an extension of the thread path on said friction drive drum and until the other tube which is empty contacts the friction drive drum. Due to its contact with the friction drive drum the empty tube is accelerated and the full package is lifted off the friction drive drum while the thread is still being wound thereon due to the inertia of the full package. The thread, in the meantime unthreaded from the thread traversing guide, and passing from the friction drive drum to the full package which has been lifted out of contact with the friction drive drum, passes through a rotating catching zone of the mandrel supporting the empty tube. Then the connecting thread between the full package and the empty tube is severed by means of the rotating catching zone, and a number of reserve wraps are placed onto the empty tube by axially moving such tube into a normal winding position while rolling such empty tube along the friction drive drum.
