    • A double twisting spindle is equipped with a pneumatically operated threading device. An injector nozzle is provided in the spindle rotor, an air stream through which nozzle sucks a thread into a hollow spindle axle and moves the thread through a thread channel in the storage plate. A compressed-air supply device is arranged below the spindle rotor for supplying compressed air to a central connecting channel provided in the spindle rotor and in communication with the injector nozzle. A common operating lever is provided which first operates a spindle brake and then opens a valve of the compressed-air supply device. The connecting channel has at its open lower end a funnel-shaped enlargement. The compressed-air supply device is stationary and has a blow nozzle which is fixedly arranged a small distance from the lower end of the spindle rotor and has an outlet opening which is coaxial with the funnel-shaped portion, the diameter of the outlet opening being smaller than the inlet diameter of the funnel-shaped portion.

    • There is described a two-for-one spinning or twisting spindle in which thread drawn from a take-up package is threaded through from the bottom upwards by means of a compressed-air-operated threading arrangement so that it can be connected to thread, coming from a supply package, at the top end of a thread entry tube. In the arrangement shown, a thread storage disc of a two-for-one twisting spindle has therein a thread exit passage 8 the inner end of which opens into a short tube 10 which opens in turn into a hollow shaft 12 of the spindle, leaving an annular gap 11. In operation of the threading arrangement, compressed air is fed into a hollow shank 5 of the spindle from below and flows upwards through the annular gap 11. Because of this the short tube 10 acts as an injector nozzle which sucks the thread into the thread exit passage 8 from the side and transports it upwards through the hollow shaft 12 of the spindle. The thread can thus be knotted at the top end of the spindle which means that the spindle and take-up bobbin do not need to start up at different times as was previously necessary. In another embodiment, compressed air can be supplied to an injector arrangement through a passage in a floor of a protective pot.

    • An apparatus for braking and positioning a spinning or twisting spindle with the spindle rotor in a specified position, having a spindle brake which engages with a rotary part, preferably a wharve, of the spindle, and, separate from said brake, positioning means comprising an additional braking surface which extends over part of the periphery of a rotary part, preferably a wharve, of said spindle and up to which an additional brake member is movable. The apparatus provides a more simply constructed braking and positioning means where it is permissible for the spindle to be stopped within a certain angular range about a prescribed central position. In the illustrated embodiment, a spindle brake proper comprises shoe means 7 engageable with an inside periphery of a skirt 5 of wharve 4, and there is provided positioning means comprising an additional braking surface 9 which preferably extends over an angle from 15.degree. to 30.degree. and which is engageable by an additional brake shoe 12. Movement of a toggle device 14, 15 downwards to a substantially straight position applied the spindle brake proper to stop the spindle rotor, and also causes, through fluid operated means, inward movement of shoe 12. Further movement of the toggle device 14, 15 to a downwardly-angled position releases the spindle brake proper, and the spindle rotor is held in a required position when surface 9 is opposite the inwardly-moved shoe 12.

    • An apparatus is disclosed for threading one of several generally parallel strands through an operation through which the strands travel. The apparatus is designed to thread a broken strand using the movement of strands adjacent to this strand. The apparatus is also designed to reduce the downtime for the adjacent strands which are employed to pull and guide the broken strand through the rethreading operation. The apparatus is designed to allow for strand guide stabilization through the rethreading operation to allow the strands and guide to pass through the system easily and without placement errors in strand threading positioning. The apparatus includes a means for holding the broken strand, a means for releasably maintaining an adjacent guide strand within the apparatus and a means for releasably grasping the moving pull strand. The apparatus is designed to be threaded while the pull strand and guide strand remain in motion and to allow the guide strand to be removed from the apparatus without stopping this moving strand. This substantially reduces the downtime of adjacent strands in rethreading a broken strand.

A selectively-movable yarn guide device is mounted on the frame for slidably receiving the clamped yarn therethrough and for movement from the free end of the drum rearwardly along the drum for guiding the yarn onto the outside surface of the drum for winding thereof into a coiled single layer permitting subsequent unwinding in a substantially tension-free condition and for releasing the yarn and returning to its starting position after winding. Preferably, selectively-operable suction devices are operatively associated with the clamping devices for cooperating therewith when the clamping devices are open to draw the free end of yarn into the clamping devices for subsequent closing thereof to hold the free end of yarn therein. Also, preferably, selectively-operable compressed air devices are operatively associated with the clamping devices for cooperating therewith when the clamping devices are open for creating a positive compressed air stream to remove the free end of yarn from the clamping devices and for conveying the free end of yarn to a desired location in the textile machine.

An obliquely extending deflection surface extends between the bypass channel and the inclined braking surface for deflecting the yarn from the bypass channel into position between the braking surface and the braking plate after threading of the yarn for start-up of the spindle assembly.

    • An apparatus for automatically stopping rotation of a spindle assembly of a textile yarn processing machine in a predetermined position and which includes provision for facilitating the threading of a yarn end through the hollow axle of the spindle assembly. The apparatus comprises brake means including a brake shoe mounted on a reciprocating piston and a braking surface on the whorl of the spindle for initially stopping rotation of the spindle, pneumatic control means for directing pressurized air between the brake shoe and braking surface to thereby at least partially release the brake means and permit the spindle to slowly rotate after it has been initially stopped, and means including an aperture in the braking surface of the spindle whorl for carrying away the air directed between the brake shoe and brake surface to thereby re-establish the brake means to stop the spindle in a predetermined position wherein the aperture is aligned with the brake shoe. Concurrently, the air entering the aperture in the braking surface is directed outwardly through an outwardly directed channel in the spindle disc and which communicates with the hollow axle to thereby draw air through the hollow axle and thus facilitate the threading of the yarn end therethrough. The above braking and pneumatic control means may be positioned at each spindle of the machine, or they may be mounted on a movable carriage which may be brought to a spindle requiring servicing.
