摘要： A cast wheel having an alloy substrate includes a primary surface and a secondary surface. A first polymeric coating is applied to the primary surface and to the secondary surface sealing the cast alloy wheel within the first polymeric coating. An intermediate polymeric coating is applied over the first polymeric coating. The intermediate polymeric coating is coated with metal using physical vapor deposition with the metal being aesthetically distinguishable from the first polymeric coating. A third polymeric coating is applied over the metal. The third polymeric coating, the intermediate coating and the metal from the primary surface of the cast alloy wheel are removed aesthetically distinguishing the primary surface from the secondary surface. A fourth polymeric coating is applied over the primary surface and the secondary surface.

摘要： Wheel assemblies for motor vehicles that include structural components made from at least partially transparent materials. The wheels include a metallic outer rim configured for mounting conventional tires. The outer rim is joined to a centrally arranged structural component which is at least partly transparent. The center component can be made from hi9gh strength polycarbonate material. The outer rim can be of multi-piece or single piece construction. Mounting adapters can be attached to the wheel assemblies. The mounting adapters can be provided in varying thicknesses and mounting hole patterns to allow the wheels to fit a variety of different vehicle configurations. The wheels can include mounting assemblies including wheel bearings and brake rotor mounts to allow the wheel to be fitted to motorcycles.

摘要： A metal workpiece, such as a wheel, and a method of providing an enhanced corrosion resistant surface coating on an exposed surface of a metal or alloy substrate (such as magnesium). A corrosion resistance basecoat is formed, including generating an oxide layer, and applying a first primer coating onto at least a portion of the oxide layer. The method may further include identifying highest corrosion prone areas on the substrate and designing a support rack that avoids contact with these corrosion prone areas. The method also includes forming a topcoat over at least a portion of the basecoat, by applying a second primer coating onto at least a portion of the first primer coating and depositing a sputtered metallic film onto the second primer coating using a physical vapor deposition technique. A clear coat layer may be applied over the metallic film.

The first color-giving coating layer and the second color-giving coating layer are separated from each other by a light-permeable intermediate coating layer. The second color-giving coating layer is removed in partial areas of the multi-layer paint system, such that the first color-giving coating layer is visible in these partial areas.

Similar in appearance and structure to a set of standard tire rims, the Appache Rims are produced in a variety of sizes and designs for use with the many makes and models vehicles on the road. As with standard tire rims, the Appache Rims are secured in place on the vehicle via threaded bolts. The rims of the present invention are comprised of heavy duty plastic and acrylic material. The Appache Rims are extremely hard, mimicking the structure of traditional chrome rims. Further, the Appache Rims can be coated in a thin layer of faux or real polished chrome, alloy or silver, thus creating the effect of costly, high-end rims.
